  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

As much as we want, we'd expect it not to go though first pop... There may be a few backwards and forwards... Hopefully not, just saying with the reality of the situation...

What he said. . .

What the rest of you don't realize is that I have ordered the Birger mount. What that means, of course, is delays, more delays, and still further delays.

Sorry to jinx everyone, but that's the way it is.

Stephen

Just sent Jarred a package... mount #04428 has been running on my camera all day without any problems.

Looking forward to get shipped my Birger EF finally when I´ll back from holidys at August 12.

Or I´m wrong like always?!

I just read through the posts from my week's hiatus... a few thoughts...

1. Birger update
2. Birger delay
3. Someone gets frustrated
4. Aqua: Let's not all freak out.
5. Supernova: It's delayed because you all freak out
6. Akube: I'm going to kill some sheep if I don't get that mount soon.
7. repeat perpetually. consider advertising on birger forum due to ridiculous view count.

:meh:

I know what you mean. My hope is that if/when Eric ramps up production and the final payments start flooding in he can hire a few more people.

This has always been the plan. Amy has just been filling in until the revenue from this justifies a full time person. She is actually a psych nurse when she is not at Birger... who do you think is keeping us all sane through this?

Birger Cheerleading squad.

I saw this as wallpaper on Amy's desktop yesterday. She said, "Don't you know what this is? I find it oddly motivating." Puzzled and confused, I just walked back to my desk...

Puzzled and confused, he walks back to his desk.

Gotta love this :)

Erik, did ya know Birger is a common first name up here in the Nordic countries? Especially in Sweden, but also in Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. The original meaning is "savior". (The word may still be used with that meaning in Icelandic and/or Faroese, if I know them right)

Birger Ruud from Kongsberg, Norway is acknowledged as the world's best ski jumper in the pre-WW2 era.

You mean Erik, the Red?

David beat me to the punch!

Maybe, if all goes well, Erik will consider changing his name and start pillaging and burning.:pirate:

4th grade history class taught by Miss Cherrington - geeesh I loved her.

edit: I take it back - it was 5th grade, Mr. O'Donnald - I hated that guy.

I am from Norway, a couple of generations removed. My given name is Erik Birger Widding. My father and his father were both Frederick Birger. My father hated being called Freddie, and his cousin similarly named for his father, was not-so amusingly (for him that is) referred to as Junior, by a family member, to one of his subordinates while he was a Colonel in the Army, working at the Pentagon...

In 1998, when I was looking for a name for the company, and all of my best minds, siblings, parents, friends, etc., couldn't really come up with anything that passed the important tests. Witty, but not silly. Allowing for room to grow and change. Hell, the domain name needed to be available.

You wouldn't believe, but 90% of our internet traffic in the early days was from the Nordic countries. 90% of our traffic was people curious about who had birger.com, rather than who or what Birger Engineering might be. We got lots of emails, along the lines of, "I Birger, What right do you have to my name? Please tell."

There were practical considerations of course. I couldn't call the company Widding something or other, I was 23. What if I ran the thing into the ground? or so successful I might want to sell out? I couldn't have the emotion and the risk attached with doing this. But I did want to give a name that really meant something to me. I chose to give the name to my company, rather than waiting for a first son.

For ten years Birger has been my child. I have been owned by him at times, but in all no regrets. I am getting married this fall, and I will eventually have to come up with another name.

Excellent, Erik! So the correct pronunciation of "Birger mount" is the Nordic way, like, uh, Beer-ger?
