Birger Lens Mount Reservations

its no wonder this topic has over 2000 postings when everyone is posting idle chit chat.

Perhaps they should open a separate chit chat section for those that feel inclined so the rest of us can read the relevant stuff without having to wade through all this highly intellectual fare.

Eddie, since you quote me directly right before stating
Don´t mind the haters erik.
it looks like I am now stamped as a Birger Hater in your book. I am a bit flabbergasted as to how you arrived at that conclusion? In the past I may have made some mildly witty comments as to the continued delays. But in the past two weeks, when the waters were rather stormy, I was trying to calm the situation. Heck, I even made some mildly witted alteration to a comic strip last week. I've been defending the Birger off forum, and have no clue as to where you have read Hate into the equation.

I am just an impatient soul.

Comments like mine may not help the Birger cause, but I see no Hate in asking for information that had been promised. And it is not like the first time that information had been promised on this thread only to be met by silence. I can of course live with that, free society and democracy and web 2.0 and all. But openness goes both ways.

---

Bottom line:

Erik, I am basically more on your side than you might think from some of my comments. I can only imagine the emotional rollercoasting you must have been through these past days. But please do keep us in the loop, otherwise the speculation just takes overhand. Simple things as a weekly progress report (best on a fixed day, say Friday) where you give a short rundown of what is happening. This could be here on Reduser, or you could have a little box on birger.com.

Eddie, be a bit more scrupulous when branding people. Hate is a strong word. Remember when defending a good cause, the way you defend also reflects on the cause itself.

Everyone: - and I have said that before - breathe, give Red and Erik time to sort their things out. Speculating and asking questions that sometimes remain unanswered, only adds to the frustration. Erik has enough on his plate, so does Red. And there is no benefit in talking negatively about other suppliers either.

Peace.

Make Red/Birger, not war.

Philosophy:

I love reading quotes from people who i admire because it gives me a feeling of where their head is at. Learning from life is a constant journey and there are always many aspects. So while we wait i thought it might be worth while posting some quotes about expectations because it seems a very strong theme here on this thread:

Claude M. Bristol:
We usually get what we anticipate.

Benjamin Disraeli:
What we anticipate seldom occurs, what we least expected generally happens.

Brian Tracy:
Whatever we expect with confidence becomes our own self-fulfilling prophecy.

Brian Tracy:
Your attitude is an expression of your values, beliefs and expectations.

Unhappiness is best defined as the difference between our talents and our expectations. -- Edward de Bono

Never idealize others. They will never live up to your expectations. -- Leo Buscaglia

Hope is itself a species of happiness, and, perhaps, the chief happiness which this world affords: but, like all other pleasures immoderately enjoyed, the excesses of hope must be expiated by pain; and expectations improperly indulged must end in disappointment.
SAMUEL JOHNSON, Letter, Jun. 8, 1762

To free us from the expectations of others, to give us back to ourselves--there lies the great, singular power of self-respect. -- Joan Didion

A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life. He knows the "why" for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any "how." -- Victor Frankl

If you accept the expectations of others, especially negative ones, then you never will change the outcome. -- Michael Jordan

Blessed is the man who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed' was the ninth beatitude. -- Alexander Pope

Our circumstances answer to our expectations and the demand of our natures. -- Henry David Thoreau

“For, he that expects nothing shall not be disappointed, but he that expects much - if he lives and uses that in hand day by day - shall be full to running over.”
-Edgar Cayce

"I know not any thing more pleasant, or more instructive, than to compare experience with expectation, or to register from time to time the difference between idea and reality. It is by this kind of observation that we grow daily less liable to be disappointed."
-Samuel Johnson,

Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get. -- Mark Twain

Achievement is largely the product of steadily raising one's levels of aspiration and expectation. ---- Jack Nicklaus

Almost everything--all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure--these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. ----
Steve Jobs

A great obstacle to happiness is the expectation of too great a happiness. ---- Fontenelle

Wars teach us not to love our enemies, but to hate our allies. ---- W. L. George

Just wrapping up for the week... to add to your thoughts... I want us all to be on the side of making some pretty phreaking incredible images... Let's see what the coming week has to offer.

There is still some work to be done. In lieu of an end of week status report, I can offer that our corporate communications deparment (a.k.a. Amy) is starting in on some of the documentation and collateral for the web site...

I talked to Erik today and he is very hopefull that all will be worked out soon. He is working as hard as he can with Red headquarters to get this mount certified. He also told me how grateful he is to Jim for the opportunity to offer this solution for Jim's amazing acomplishment, the Red one camera. Erik said that if it were not for Jim there would not be a Birger thread to follow. He also said that his greatest hope is that one day there will be a proud moment when an Acadamy award will be announced for a movie shot on the Red One and lensed with Canon lenses using the Birger mount. And when that happens he will send Jim a very expensive bottle of champaign.

My response to this was: Of course it will be my movie. Seriously, you should read my script.

Sorry, but it'll be my movie, and it will be shot with Nikon lenses. That's a promise :-)

On the bright side - at least this will, probably, be the most thoroughly vetted 3rd party accessory for the Red.

The first person to get an oscar using red and birger gets three sheep chopped and delivered anywhere in the world.

Chill martin... it´s just a funny expression i snatched from the o´reilly factor.

But seriously I don´t understand why it is important for you to point out that erik is behind schedule? I mean, in 2007 Red promised to deliver 400 cameras a month, which should have put yours on your doorstep already... however I don´t hear you complain about that? It seems to me as a more natural procedure, since you will need your camera before you will be able to use the birger mount. And unlike your red one, the delay of the birgermount is not a showstopper, since cheap alternatives are already available.
So where are the sarcastic remarks about the old schedules posted by jannard in 2007? What is stopping you?

Think about it for a while, why would someone with the best of intentions whine about the delay of a third-party accesory he did not order, for a camera he will not receive within the next 6 months?
Apart from trolling, it doesn´t make sense... to me atleast.

In case people aren't aware, you can use the Birger mount on other setups. I for one will be using it with my Jvc HD200 +Brevis35 while I wait for my RED One. The Birger mount is not limited to be used only with the RED ONE. Heck, you can use it on any camera that'll take an SLR lens mount.
