  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

So, what's the schedule for the rest of the mounts' shipment.

Erik, can you give all of us an idea of what the production/delivery schedule will be like now... how many will you be able to make per week, etc.

Thanks.

Back in March (link) Erik said: "Our production capability is about 50 units/day. … All will ship within ten days of the first."

Erik, is that still accurate? (Those other March predictions didn't turn out so great.) And can we get an update on the knob?

so one got shipped ...

so one got shipped ...

hurray ... now, can Erik advise what the next batch will be (from / to 107_ numbers) and WHEN will they ship :)

PS : did Erik REALLY have to wait until 100K visits to this thread to start shipping :shifty:

Actually the delay is all my fault.

The Nikon mount I ordered in despair will arrive tomorrow morning. Now, if I'd ordered that when it came out - Erik would have shipped about that time.

Sorry guys.

Any news about when the '107s' will start receiving their mounts?

... and we see dead people

and even Jim's highest total is about 57,000. Anybody that doesn't see that the Birger mount is a key component of the RED revolution should just look at the numbers.
Not arguing about the fact that Birger will be a game changer, but if Jim had posted everything about Red One in one single thread, I imagine that it would have gotten a whole lotta more than a mere 100.000 :=)

Enjoy your Birger!

Not wishing to be TOO optimistic, but are there instructions for how to remove the PL mount ? the Birger Canon mount PDF instructions ? Birger software components ? is the built-in s/w user upgradable ? etc ...

Ie : what is the life cycle management for the Canon Birger mount ? :)

P S: Mike (Aqua) got your mount ? :usd:

Argh ! About 150 threads to read in english before having any idea of when the Nikon mount will be available... It seems that the birth of this mount is a little bit harder that it seems to be initially.
Do you have an idea of how many weeks or monthes before being able to buy one ? Shall I buy the Nikon mount at Red today or is it worth to wait ?

Best regards,

Olivier

If you need to use Nikon lenses, I'd get the RED Nikon mount or look into the P+S Interchangeable Mount System (IMS) that's supposed to be released in a few weeks. Birger is just starting to ship the Canon mounts, and is still working on knobs and Bluetooth remotes (I think?), so the Nikon mount will probably be a while. Check back around Christmas.

Olivier, you could get the Birger Canon mount and a Nikon to Canon mechanical adapter (AFAIK Erik offers that). Reservation holders for the Birger Nikon mount can take delivery of a Canon mount and can trade their Canon mount in for a Nikon, for the cost of shipping, when available. Don't know how it is for non reservation holders...

FEDEX dropped it off 15 minutes ago. Pictures soon - looks sexy!

Will be a few hours before I get it mounted. Erik sent pictures and instructions, and yes the s/w is user upgradable.

Nikon to Canon adapters are about $20. I have been using Nikon, Contax/Yashica Zeiss (my favorites), and even some M42 on my previous prototype Birger mount for six months. The adapters are about $20 and work very well. Basically, Canon has the shortest flange focal distance so virtually everything else works with it with a simple mechanical adapter.

BTW I have an extra Contax/Yashica Zeiss F1.4 50mm in excellent condition that I am offering for sale for $295 including the Canon EF adapter. It makes an excellent low light prime, has a long focus throw (as to all the c/y zeiss lenses, and optical quality is on a par with the cine lenses of the same era (late 80's I believe)

I have a wonderfull 2 200 Nikon VR that I can't use with the Nikon mount of the Red (no ring for diaph). I would like to find an electrical solution. If I use the nikon to canon adapter, I think i will loose the electric iris control of the birger canon mount, isn't it ?
