Birger Lens Mount Reservations

no spam filter and nothing here.

warren@fofp.com is what I placed the order under.

sorry erik. i know this must be annoying. just want to make sure I'm in for a mount in the november group.

Erik/Birger thank you for what you are creating. I don't have my RED yet, so I'm not in the same boat as some people, thanks for the time you take to post updates here. =)

Okay, my funds are in to Red, and my camera is "on it's way!" Now all I need is the mount to avoid having to just stare at a beautiful shiney brick when it arrives in the next few weeks.

Call Z! Send me a 7 number! Charge my card! Please! I can't wait!

Erik: Best regards, and hope all is going well,

Thom

One shiny brick is certainly better than two shiny bricks...
Still, I have plenty of papers that need weighting down. :weight_lift:

Thom excited for you. what did you go with for mattebox? mic? 15mm rods or 19mm?

Couldn't be more excited than I am!

I have a reservation in for the Redrock Mattebox, but may hold off to see what Red makes at what price. Since I'll be mostly be using my existing still lenses, I'm not in too much of a rush as I already have lens mount NDs for them.

I'm holding off getting new sound gear until NAB (Deals?!) as I have plenty of mics for testing (we mostly do music recording and have plenty of studio mics) but, I'm planning to go with the Schoeps MK41 for indoor and haven't decided for outdoor.

As for Rods, you bring up a good point. Uhh.. Oops.. Did I have a choice? I'm not too sure--I'm just a stupid director after all!!! I went with the production pack (with extra handle and side mounts) so I'm pretty sure that means 19mm.

Right now I'm doing a bit of scrambling to make sure I can get some PL lenses to play with. So far I have a DP friend who's going to come over of "delivery" day with some borrowed PLs--but that's about it.

Anyone with PLs in tow, who wants to hang out on a Saturday shooting around L.A. after my camera arrives--let me know!

The camera still works it is just the image that is a little fuzzy...

Hi Erik,

Is there any chance before delivery that you can post a current list of the lenses that work best/smoothest on the mount?

My camera should be here before the birger mount, which means it'll be sat lensless until I get the birger. It would be great if I could get my lenses ordered and delivered so I can get going with it as soon as it arrives.

any suggestions on which ones to avoid or stick with?

Erik will know best, of course, but I'd say stick to the newest L-series glass and you'll be golden.

Thanks Akabaka. I was going to take a chance on these but I also know Erik was going to test some non L lesnes like the 17-55 and see how they performed. Edit : (and the 10-22)

I'm edging my way towards primes, simply for the low light ability, but it might be nice to have a zoom or two in the bag, and my budget might not stretch to a full L series set.

My main "walking around" lens is the 24-70mm L. It's like an automatic beautiful-picture-taking machine. I haven't tested it for breathing or anything, since I've only used it for stills so far, but my guess would be that if you need a versatile, general purpose zoom in your arsenal... that's a pretty good choice.

the 70-200 is a defo on my list. So I was going to try to fill in the gaps with the L primes. Still torn.

Could also add the 10-22 USM, 24mm 1.4 USM and a 50mm 1.2 USM

or go for the 17-55 and forget primes altogether. Hard choice and the performance on the mount may seal it.

Maybe the 35mm f1.4 L will be a more useful lens for drama.... I just dont know....lol

In case anyone missed this, see the link below for Canon lens breathing tests, including the 24-70mm L.

Low Noise Equals Good Exposure

Low Noise Equals Good Exposure

If you are going for a low noise picture and want to do low light work you will really like the 1.4 and 1.2 lenses. Medium size room night interior setups take a lot light. The fast lenses make your life a lot easier.

I hate to complain, but I still haven't got confirmation for my Nikon mount - and I faxed it in November.
