  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

I just got off of the phone with Jarred... and he authorized me to say the following:

We are confident that this agreement will be wrapped up quickly, as we are both on the same page.

Methinks chocolate is in order.

Sure sounds great, Eric! Really looking forward to an in-depth update from you. Like a "this is how far down the list we have gotten by now" kinda thing? Nicely spiced up with technical details on the CNC mills and how they're performing. Those are the fun kind of updates!

keep smiling
Jesper

Will try to keep people posted as we work our way through thelast of this...

Next draft of the agreement will be back in Jarred's hands in the morning. Still confident we will be able to get this done quickly. Dotting the i's and crossing the t's...

Production continues... 42 more Camera Adapters were assembled today bringing the total waiting for their circuit boards to be installed to 137. Should be building the boards for these as soon as the agreements are in place. 190 boards only takes about 3 hours through the pick and place machine...

And... a couple of videos are in the works... most (95%) of the resources for this are not on my staff... This will allow us to stay focused on the production. We will announce more once this is in post... maybe sooner.

Next report tomorrow.

Unfortunately, not quickly enough...
Red won't mind though, 'cause we've just had to drop AU$10k on an 18-50mm to make sure we are ready for a job in 2 weeks.
Still want the Birger mount to work though, so we aren't bailing on it......

not happy Jan...

... actually, maybe some chocolate would make me happier....:bleh:

Hey Eric...

Hey Eric...

Hey Eric,

I assume that you are still working out the fine print between you and RED. I also understand if it might take some time to settle the details. In the meanwhile, would it be too much to ask if you could give us the big picture of the new Birger & RED deal? For future installmets, are we talking about being forced to ship off our cameras to Boston or to some local engineer in our own country/region? Or is maybe a DIY soultion still on the menu?

I would be greatful for any response.

Best wishes,

Calle

PS: As my Canon L-lenses are collecting dust, I am digging deeper and deeper in to the old Nikon lens nomenclatures. And I really like what I am finding.

canceled order and requested refund on 18 dec. nothing received to date.

so much for "we will return your money within 30 days but should be able to get it back to you much quicker than that".

money back immediately please erik - or do you intend to keep it?

I have a question that could be answered in this thread but over 400 pages I do not have the time to view all and cannot find the answer in search.

Ready to order my Red One this week and have been told that Birger Canon mount is on the market by a Red One owner. Not sure if this thread is for a newer model? Since I have access to Canon EF – L - IS zoom and prime lenses this is very important to me.

Is the Birger mount for Canon on their site on the market now?
Will it handle the Image Stabilization from the Canon lens?
How does it handle the iris since it is electronic?
Is the View Factor wired Follow Focus compatible with the Canon Focus and zoom?

My plan is to use the ET Mantis with the View Factor wired FF on the left handle for Focus and possible second for Zoom. Is this possible?

Neither manufactures View Factor or Birger will call or email me back.

Sorry if all of this has all been answered but I am on an edit crunch for a next few weeks and have limited time but would like to place my order. And I need to know my best lens options with IS to keep within budget.

Thanks for the help.

Probably somewhere in first 2 weeks of March for both the Birger and the View Factor to be available in good shipping numbers. There's no older model of the Birger really.

The Birger handles the iris with buttons on the mount.

The View Factor will handle focus wirelessly or by cable.

The Birger supports image stablization but I don't think it's been heavily tested.

Since Canon zooms are all manual you'd need a motor to drive the Zoom and a gear on the lens to receive the motor. The View Factor can drive their own Inclino motor but can't focus at the same time it drives a zoom. With the current VF zoom support you'd be using the FF wheel to zoom which is a bit weird but would work.

Probably a better solution is to rent a MicroForce unit if you need zoom control.

Thank you Joel all of that helps. But if not in early March I will need to look at a different option.

What do you know about the Wicked Circuits option.

http://www.wickedcircuits.com/Solutions.html

Not much. I'm not sure they have a version that controls the Iris yet. It's coming, but not sure when. I kinda trust the Birger's electronics the most right now. I think each lens has to be characterized and Birger has a head start on that. VF told me the Birger was engineered well and chose to partner up with Birger on the knob so that's something.

If the Wicked mount would interface with VF then I think their electronic solution would be stronger than it currently appears to me. The VF knob is a nice unit.

In fact, the guys at RED should make sure their future mount for Scarlet/Epic works with it IMHO.
