  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Don't forget Hollyood plays the mainstream mostly... cinaplex etc etc... There are a lot of niche markets. "As it is in heaven" played for 52 weeks straight full at a local cinema here. That is something no Hollywood film can do. There are heaps of opportunities. Most major studios have independent divisions and buy up stuff out there. Then there is the web. Downloaded my first movie from site the other day. $6.95 for feature doco. It was great not having to go to the dvd shop or wait....
Don't forget if you make a film for $500,000 and sell it for 2 mill and a Hollywood film gets made for 60mill and sells 100mill then technically your movie was more successful. It's not about money totals for investments. It's about percentages...No studio is going to look at you unless you have "made your bones" anyway, so i think starting with red and birger gives you a good foot in the door if you produce something that makes waves and audiences will see different things. How many famous directors/producers started with some obscure anti hollywood cult film that they funded by themselves.? Almost all.

btw... is that cable still drawing power from the back of the cam?

Probably this is where it will go.
It is much safer there since who knows what we will be plugging in to Birger mount in the future, plus some lenses could be power hungry and some are kicking in with power surge, especially when you didn’t use them for some time.

I would like the L (right angle) plug at the back though.

Can't it sit at 90 degrees left of the port?

Regardless, keep up the good work and I look forward to shooting with the mount soon!

Cheers,

Paul

No you wouldn't. If you plug into the top port it will obscure the bottom one. If you plug into the bottom one, a camera without a base plate will not sit flat - it will sit on the cable.

Since you're plugging into the rear power it seems like it would be a shame not to have a way to trigger the other two functions (record and ramp)available on those ports. It would be nice to have a record button right on the follow focus knob. I know Curt decided to add that to his follow focus which is powered from the same port.

This has been a bit of a hassle for me, the straight lemos are a real pain for my uses, and the 90 degree lemos are inconvienently oriented on the back.

This is why I was so excited about the RS232 port...but alas, other issues. This is also why I'd almost welcome and external battery powered mount...

My vote (given what little I currently know) would be for a 90 degree lemo out the lower aux. port, I can live with the camera not being able to sit flat, its usually on a plate anyway. Just my couple pennies...

For the sake of discourse, I'll take those numbers to be very simplified as to being "this is what you spent in total" and "this is what the distributors passed back to you".

That out of the way, the indie is most emphatically less successful.

What you're saying is that filmmaker 'A' who spent two years or more banking $1.5 million is more successful than filmmaker 'B' who spent about the same amount of time to deposit $40 million.

The percentage is irrelevant since there is no way that anyone can make 27 low budget features in that time frame to equal the same dollar in the bank. And I'd guess that the average return for $500,000 features is a lot closer to $0 than it is to $2 million.

Notice I'm saying successful, not satisfying. You can spend those two years making a passion project that you really believe in- and getting it out there while not loosing your shirt may be the most satisfying experience in your life.

Just don't try to use math to prove that.

And uhhh... I'm really looking forward to using my Birger mount when it is ready. See that there, I can still be all topical and shit.

i dont give a rats ass how much money is spent on what.. its about talent. you got it... or you dont. talent in shooting.. talent in directing actors that suck ass into acting works of art. jee.. don't you guys go to film festivals anymore? how much did 4 months 3 weeks and 2 days cost?

how much did 4 months 3 weeks and 2 days cost?

Great film, absolutely worth seeing, budget was less than € 600.000.-.

All is about talent ... and the talents are in need of the Birger mount. Any news from the front Jarred?

Even better, if the Birger remote will have record button there.
Record on the knob? Well it is next to it on the left on the camera body, but on the remote unit, priceless.

At least, moving power cable to the back of the camera will have now good justification.

As to the right angle, power connector, I guess this ones are not rotating right angle connectors so you are stuck with fixed pointing direction?

Right angle LEMOS

Right angle LEMOS

There was a thread going back in March about using right angle connectors on the back of the camera. It did sound like there were some (pricey) options available from Lemo for different orientations on the right angle connectors.

In investments it's always a percentage game; per annum returns. Wether you invest your $50,000 in a return that offers 20% OR 400% (pa). THE 400% is more successful. Having to invest in a hollywood film with known stars/directors obviously gives you a more stable investment...

So i stand by what i say.
