Birger Lens Mount Reservations

So now that RED have a new PL mount, have they changed the way we would have to mount the Birger mount?

Still no definite words on how easy and accurate it is to change between the RED PL and Birger mounts?

I can't speak for anyone else here, but there's no way I'm going to attempt to replace the mount myself. I'll take it to a qualified technician (thankfully in NYC there are several of those) to carefully swap the PL mount with the Birger Canon mount. It's the only way to be sure that everything is working right.

I agree with, Jaime. It's the kind thing I'd rather not mess around with. There's too many other things that can go wrong on a set for me to take it upon myself to mess with that.

Good advice! I'm definitely not advocating this for everybody. Unfortunately for me, I'm the type of guy who likes to know how things work and how to take things apart, within limits.

I may never use that knowledge, but I like to know what those limits are.

Also, it's conceivable that some particularly adventurous shooters will be a long way from home for long periods of time (wildlife guys), and the more they know about maintenance/adjustment in the field, the more they can stay out.

Sorta seems to me like you're not running a great risk doing it yourself unless you drop a screwdriver on the sensor. Or dust the thing up. If you don't get the distance shimmed right (or however the Birger will adjust) then you take it to a PRO. But they won't have RED shims... which begs the question do RED shims still work? Is that how a Birger is adjusted?

I'm thinking someone's going to need to make an instructional video cause frankly NO TECHNICIAN you can hire has experience with that yet. You may as well figure it out for yourself and be the guy in town that can do it.

I Was Charged... the bank called to confirm the payment... so i paid birger in full.. two days ago. Sent in the form 13 days ago.

TO DATE... I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY EMAIL OR CONFIRMATION FROM BIRGER. EVER.

When you get something from redrock or sgpro... they get back to you.. process your order.. tell you they received your order.. ask for confirmation.. you go ahead.. atleast something to let you know its being processed. Let alone the simple "Thank You and this is the reservation number."

I made my reservation 2 weeks ago by fax. I also sent two follow-up e-mails to info@birger.com. Still no conformation and no replies to either e-mail and my card has not been charged. I guess they don't want my money anytime soon.

Akube, I appologize that you have not received a confirmation. One was sent at the time your card was charged, as was the case with all of the other deposits that have been processed. It is possible that we made a mistake transcribing the email address, or that the email was lost.

I am travelling today. I will resend all of the confirmation emails tomorrow.

Glenn, we have not been processing the requests for confirmation until we have processed all of the reservations. We are working to clear up the backlog of reservation forms, and expect to have this resolved in the coming days. We will continue to keep the reservations open until a few days after we have processed all of the forms, and announced that fact on reduser, so any lost orders, for whatever the reason, can be remedied.

I think it is important for me to say that it should probably be seen as a good thing that we have not had enough time to finish processing the paperwork. The response has been greater than we imagined- I can assure you this product as a top priority for us at Birger. I can also assure you the recent investments we have made in production equipment/tooling will ensure that we will be able to ship all of the Canon orders that we have received to date, by the end of January, or the deferral date if later.

Once again, thank you all for your support of this product release. I take the frustration expressed as a sign of excitement for the product.

From what I understand the threaded base of the new mount is attached to the boy in the same way the old ridged mount was. The birger replaces the entire unit from what I understand.

Thanks Erik, sorry for sounding like a whining little . . . . Just don't want to miss out on the deal because of a faulty fax machine or something. I'm looking forward to using your Canon mount.

Thanks

T. Glen
