  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I can respect that, though I actually see it as passive agressive, more than good fun. Maybe I'm too serious. :-) Hoochie mama is kinda funny, so I definitely see your point.

Why not take the high road and just acknowledge the fact that competitors exist and people want to discuss the pros and cons of competition. Or if the only desired communication here is how great RED is and that it exists in a vacuum- disable user replies completely and call it REDblogger. :emote_popcorn:

People start screaming, slandering each other and generally behave like children when the word "canon" coupled with "seven-dee" or "5D" comes up. That is why. They're tired of holding hands with both groups trying to get them along -- instead they're placing them in confinement for the moment :)

I think we understand the problem, but altering every post containing the words limits everyone's ability to communicate, not just the trolls and cranks. It causes it's own disruption with the resultant confusion.

Thoughtful, human moderation is the answer. When individual members fail to do it for themselves, then someone else needs to step in. It takes time and wisdom to moderate well, and it is a job that is largely thankless, but it is necessary to keep a forum like this from falling into chaos.

If you can read this, thank your moderator.

Then perhaps be consistent and make all non-RED camera brands and models into censored words and ban any discussion that is not about RED cameras. Also post a clear note when the forum loads that any discussion not directly related to RED and its cameras is not permitted here and will be removed.

That would be elegant and proactive, instead of turning certain words into nonsensical substitutions without any explanation. That just confuses people and makes REDuser look like it doesn't have its act together 100%. It also gives the impression that RED the company is concerned about losing business to Canon- and specifically the 7 D. (Which I don't personally believe is the purpose but sure does give this idea to anyone who's not living in your heads.)

We know you guys are 'just mods and you don't work for RED' but this forum is also the main method of communication the company has chosen to adopt-- so what you do here speaks directly for the company, intentionally or not. And if this is supposed to be the official board of a successful billion dollar company, consistent, elegant and proactive are qualities you'd want customers and potential customers to know you for, aren't they? :thumbsup:
