  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Beta Camera Build 3.2.8

Hi all.

I don't want to spoil a good off-topic discussion, but i'm still checking this thread every hour to see if a solution to my crashing scarlet presents itself.
I am 100% satisfied with the scarlet, but i'd only like to have phantom power enabled and to be able to press record without a camera crash.

Any prospect on a firmware fix soon?

U're right, dear Jarred, and that's only speculation, can we?
But what I'm asking for is only DECENT POWER MANAGEMENT like all kind of world brand gets and 25 IN 3K (as specs...).
Is this a dream or can I tell U?
Is there any chance to have it? For me living in pal countries is sort of essential to get it...
Btw I'm very happy with the Scarlet, very proud of the images coming out from and the other things are only speculating staff:)))

I know I shouldn't be surprised that some of you guys are asking for your Scarlets to magically have the same specs as an Epic with some sort of juju fantasy pixy dust firmware that switches your Scarlet hardware to Epic hardware.... But I must admit I sit here shaking my head in disbelief that some of you actually think that is a possible reality.

Seeing how at the time most of us bought our Scarlets 25fps HDRx at 3K was in the official specs one could expect to still see that. Maybe at 3K HD? And since the Scarlet is doing 1/4 fps of what the Epic does at 4K, 2K and 1K, one might assume it to be able to do the same 1/4 at 5K and 5K WS. Although at 3K and 1K WS the Scarlet's doing 1/3.33 of what the Epic does.

Now, I'm not whining and I'm not demanding that the Scarlet-X gets higher framerates. I'm just trying to point out why people might feel it should be possible to get higher framerates out of the Scarlet at some of the current resolutions. The only thing that would make a big difference for me personally would be getting 50 fps at 2.5K or - if it's possible - at 3K HD.

So true! I love my Scarlet with the current specs and the possibility that everything can change. The most important change for me is 50fps@3K, think that's possible...

camera freezes when pressing playback button using a battery source that does not transmit battery information (works when using Redvolts). At least the image freezes, can use the menus, but not everything will respond in the menus when trying to change settings. Anyone else experiencing this?

Why shouldn't Red protect Epic? It's their product. I own the Scarlet and I realize how foolish it would be for Red to enable 24 fps at 5K in it, unless or until the Epic surpasses it significantly, perhaps with the new chip.
...

There is no business reason why they shouldn't (in fact there are plenty why they should). However, Red's ethos and philosophy we often hear is that they will always strive to give the best they can, and compete with themselves. Hobbling products, IMO, doesn't fit in with the Red way.

I propose a CAGE MATCH forum where we send all squabbles between EPIC and SCARLET owners - and owners/non-owners - oh and while we're at it, let's send over those RED/Alexa matchups as well so that the rest of us seeking information or help with a beta build can find it.

Jarred can set up a sports book sub-forum and use the additional revenue to defray the cost of developing the next-gen ROCKET.

Not seeing this on Scarlet #208 - tried to re-create the problem with several batteries that transmit / don't transmit.

Even worse was when Black Magic screwed over their customers to release what they just paid $250 000 for at $1000. People lost their houses over that one.

This is a business. Not a hobby destined to help you make your indy whatever film or to make wedding videos look better. Grow up, deal with it.

*sigh*

Most people who haven't worked in the business don't *get* software. Read, and be enlightened:

Awesome firmware! This is why I use RED! No mercy with competition! :)

Because I had similar issues I used that, and it rebooted with the new firmware working perfectly... What do you have to lose if it's not working right. I am running 3.28 with no problems since.

I thought i'm fine after i did the force upgrade, it worked for a day or two, then the white screen/half white-screen came back. It goes after a few reboots, sometimes it doesn't show up at all, not seeing a pattern here...

Only issue I have on the beta is that randomly upon boot my LCD output is all white, either full screen or half. I use the power button to shutdown and upon reboot it is fine. Seems random and doesn't happen every time. Hasn't happened on any previous build. Otherwise, so far so good.

After the force restore, I was still able to keep the new firmware and have a stable camera. I did the same to my Epic and Scarlet.

The best way to look at this issue...remember the old mustangs same bodies but one GT -V8 , V6 and v4 people tried to drop the GT engine in the V4's and it wouldn't work do to changes and cost. They said by the time you pay all of that money trying to put that engine in a V4 you could have bought a GT.

Long story short..you have to educate us on how it can't work because we thought it would work taking the Epic boards and placing them in a scarlet..until I spoke to Red support. Yes we want you to modify the scarlet with all the perks without burning the camera out or.......give us some spec's on the upgrade for the scarlet =)

I feel for you Jarred !
It’ sad to see you disappointed by a bunch of ungrateful pixel freaks and frame-rate maniacs but, as unfortunate as it may be, once you enter the market of affordability this is one of the drawbacks.

Please don’t let these comments disturb your excellent work and keep looking after those of us that really appreciate an I mean ...REALLY Appreciate ... what has been created !!
