  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Beta Camera Build 3.2.8

We have tracked down the issue with the upgrade process on 3.2.8.

Until we get a fix in, the recommended upgrade path is to use the force_upgrade process...

1) create a force_upgrade folder on the top level of your SSD
2) drag the upgrade.bin file into the force_upgrade folder
3) insert SSD into camera
4) power up the camera and wait for upgrade to complete. (the green pwr/rec LED's will flash while upgrading and the camera will automatically shut down)

everything will be restored to the proper 3.2.8 settings on the next power cycle.

if you decide to downgrade from 3.2.8 to 3.0.x, we recommend the same procedure.

It is not a separate setting - it is automatic. When you change the REDCODE from the menu you are actually setting the TARGET REDCODE. If you change your frame rate up real high you will see the REDCODE automatically change to the best setting and be colored yellow if it does not match the target. When you change your frame rate back your REDCODE will change back.

Now that's a helpful feature.

Not sure why some people are having trouble with the Beta upgrade - could be multiple issues and different for everyone; but. I read the install instructions for this one (strangely) and they were different than the last time.
You need to have the camera on and then install the REDMag and instruct the camera to update - unlike the other updates where the REDMag is in the camera and then you turn it on. Could this be what's hanging some cameras?

G.

No, the white screen appears anyway.

After a few glitches and "reflashing/reset to default settings"-procedures the new firmware seems to run fine on my scarlet.
The only thing that i'm missing is 5k HD, it's just not there, every other new resolution is in the list.

Glitches aside, i know what beta means, this is a really impressive update. Thank you very much RED!

If we don't see 5k HD should we use the force upgrade option?

Had some weeeeeird stuff happen during the first upgrade, but the 2nd one seemed to take fine...just missing 5k HD

Thank you!

No, 5K HD was not included in the scarlet upgrade. The max frame-rate would have had the same 12 fps limitation.
5K HD would still be useful for shooting 16:9 timelapse on the Scarlet. Any chance of seeing it in the next firmware? 5K WS would be nice to see as well.

Is there currently any software that will take advantage of the Gyro data? How can I access the data to use it in AfterEffects? Is there a way to get it in a text or XML file?

+1 on this, can't wait for The Foundry to get their hands on this!

did you use the "upgrade" folder or the "force_upgrade" folder when attempting the install on start-up?

Ah, I used the "upgrade". Didn't see your previous post there. I'll give it another go. Thanks!

Nope, still the white screen, although now it was on one half on the lcd when using force_upgrade. Downgraded now.

Just a hunch, but if you were to unplug/hot plug in the case of the half white screen... or power cycle, it should function normally.

My REDmote isn't connecting for the upgrade. There is now an app instead of the terminal thing. Should it be as simple as make sure the REDmote is plugged in, has the correct IP and then open the app and hit connect? I tried for a while and no luck....
