  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

+1 on the Arri Dovetail system. I recall it was on the initial wishlist too, like 3 years ago.

I have no idea on how to make to keep the rig universal and not Red oriented though, if we have to use a 15mm sliding bottom plate.

One thing that would really help my type of use for the quick plate is to make it so that I could put a receiver part on a tripod and that way I could go from Beast to tripod and back again with out changing plates. Maybe some kind of ultra light Arri Dovetail type of attachment. I could be wrong but it seems that we are not supporting that much weight because the rig can only take about 15 Lb's anyway so a regular dove tail that is supper lightened up. And even if you go to the tripod you still could only use light setups.
Its just my type of use has me needing to shoot on the Beast and then transfer for a quick shot on a tripod and them back to the gimbal.
Anyway my 2 cents worth..

I also think it would be fantastic to be able to jump back and forth between gimbal and sticks. How 'bout building something like this into the new base plate system?

The best solution to go from gimbal to sticks or handheld is the Arri dovetail system because you can balance it and all sorts of bridge/dovetail plates allready exist for all cameras .

Poorly designed stand - My solution

Poorly designed stand - My solution

The stand for the Beast just doesn't have the same tight tolerances as the Gimbal.
I understand the reason for the design, but it needs work. Here are some pics of my nearly finished solution, It works great. There is no more shaking and sloppiness in the stand. All it needs now is anodizing.

Have a look, and tell me what you think.

Hello all, finally used my Beast in its first shoot with the large battery (powered the RED too) and it worked without a hitch. So happy not to have had any issues... except when I went to charge one of the big batteries and accidentally tried to put the xh connector the wrong way which resulted in a very small spark.

Now that battery has the status light blinking red as well as the cell 1 light blinking red. Am I correct in assuming I fried it?

Any Lipo alternatives to the large acr batteries or does that DC connector mean I have to stick with acr?

Let me know if you want to sell this after market kit. I love the stand but it needs some updating and it looks like you have fixed all the issues.

Thats supper light but what about the other part... Thats where the weight is and it needs to be low profile to not mover center of gravity to high on the cradle.
This bridge plate is super light and thin (Arri standard); the base can provide 15mm rods support and adequate height when sitting on a 19mm or 15mmm studio bridge plate on sticks or handheld....

Hello Guys,

I'm very happy to see Rion design is almost complete. It looks really nice and from what I see and heard from Rion it is a nice upgrade for stand.

Ryan, you can buy different battery and replace power plugs for them. All you need to remember is that parameters of that replacement battery should be similar - The Beast is calibrated to work with specific batteries so you probably should try to find one that is almost exactly same (4-cell, 6000 mAh, 14.8V). And please remember that those batteries will be powering RED - it's up to 5 Amps of power discharge, so those cells should be capable to work with such current. And yes, you have damaged your battery I'm afraid.

Drone Nerds are our US based partner - they have our accessories on stock, so if you need any additional items, you can purchase those directly from them. (http://www.dronenerds.com/)

As for units, we are preparing next batch of units, I'm sorry for slight delay but there was huge interest in our products during NAB so a lot of our production power were shifted to meet that demand. I know that it is not perfect situation, but I'm certain that everybody here understands that we need to make sales.

Best
Peter

If anyone is interested I can set you guys up with the machine shop and you can buy the pre made parts unless ACR likes it enough to manufacture these parts and send them out.

The X piece when screwed down pushes against the four legs and takes away any slack inherent in the original design. It is mounted on the side that allows for the 3/8-16 tapped hole to be accessible. I have used it on a tripod and it works great.

Tapped plugs are glued into the opposite end of the vertical rods used to hold the gimbal

A machined plug with a threaded screw is fastened into opposing holes in the X frame.

This solution works great. It completely stiffens up the stand and allows for a confident Auto - tune that doesn't fail.

I haven't been given a final price for this yet as the anodizing for the X piece will be completed next week.

Any questions?

Hello Guys,

we have implemented a lot of upgrades to firmware, there are a lot of new functions and settings that The Beast has currently. To help you navigate through those we have create new manual. I'm providing link to it and it's almost final version. Please read it and send me information as we will appreciate feedback. Please contact me with suggestions if you will deem any changes to be necessary.

I'm sending e-mails to next members of group buy to confirm delivery dates.

Hey all, my Lock n' Load had been completely stuck since I received it (can't take it off). Not a show stopper but I'm sure I'll need to take it off one day. Anyone else experience this. And I mean, it's really really stuck.
