  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

Hey all, my Lock n' Load had been completely stuck since I received it (can't take it off). Not a show stopper but I'm sure I'll need to take it off one day. Anyone else experience this. And I mean, it's really really stuck.

Hey Ryan, mine was "stuck" as well. I really "worked" it with more force then you'd expect and now it works fine. It's a little scary but I was lucky and didn't hurt the beast. Good luck!

Thanks Steve! I'll give it a harder try.

Also, did ACR follow through with any goodwill discounts on accessories for us group buy folks? I ask because I need to put in an order for a few large batteries.

Hello Guys,

we have implemented a lot of upgrades to firmware,

Hello Peter,
Is this a new firmware?

What about the manager? I can never seem to get ot to work with the Beast V2.

there are a lot of new functions and settings that The Beast has currently. To help you navigate through those we have create new manual. I'm providing link to it and it's almost final version. Please read it and send me information as we will appreciate feedback. Please contact me with suggestions if you will deem any changes to be necessary.

I found this on page 12
OPTION 2: LARGE LI-PO BATTERY (1X)
1. The large Li-Ion battery is to be used with the Battery MountSet.

You mean LI-PO right?

I just came back from my shoot in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles to be more precise.
It was damn hot and we had a lot of stuff to capture.
The Beast was used in the middle of the day, under an heavy sun, I had to run in the sand, in a really wet jungle or to mount it at the back of a truck and it worked flawlessly, not a single issue... So easy to balance!
I received an email from Maciej at ACR before leaving and he asked me to upload the new firmware which literally solved the problem I had when I first tested it.
My only issue this time was that damn plate, I f**ked up one of the screw hole by mounting the camera probably too fast and it's the one in the middle so I'll have to purchase a new one and some screws too...
Sorry to insist on that but that part of the gimbal is not the same build quality as the rest... This plate feels like cheap to me.
I also need to spend more time configuring the joysticks and the controller, it needs some tweaks to react as I want.
It feels really good to write that as I was really skeptical about the all thing but I really like the Beast and I don't think anymore about how long I had to wait for it... My Ronin is now for sale.
Shout out to Peter and Maciej for getting back to me really quick before my shoot.

Hi Vincent - what firmware were you on and what did you update to? What was the problem it fixed? Cheers.

Hello Andy,

I can't remember which build was installed when I received my unit but I updated to the last one I found on the ACR website, the 2.0b2.

From time to time when moving the gimbal too fast I had some "encoder error" messages which have now disappeared.

Thanks for this Piotr, Im printing this and adding it to the case that the Beast lives in. Always good to have as a go to.
Things are going well with the Beast. Only regret is that I wish I had it a year ago.
Cheers

Anyone knows if there is a Mitchell mount to lock'n'load plate somewhere ?

Berenger, there is no direct way to connect Mitchell mount to lock'n'load plate at the moment. We need to create special adapter plate for it.

That question brings up interesting subject. Can you please tell us what other mounting systems would you like to use? We could probably prepare those but we need to know what you expect.

Hello just some input here after seeing your gimbal at NAB, a mitchel mount connection would connect the Beast to the Back arm from flowcine , for vehicle mount shots, or even crane on vehicle, boats , quads. etc.
If you are interested contact us at info@flowcine.com or constantine@flowcine.com. Cheers

What Constantine said.
Was looking at his FlowCine at NAB before making my way over to to ACR.
Immediately, the same thought regarding merging the two units made sense.
+ a vote. Then another. Don't stop.

Applications would be endless.
Also, a Mitchell interface would allow for placement directly onto other hardware such as a Trost mitchell slider mounted on speedrail.

Would also suggest that you get in contact with Pedro who was demonstrating his system between a gimbal and a ReadyRig GS in the RED booth.
He is already manufacturing interfaces with other gimbals - BS4 / The Beast should be a natural addition to the list. See this thread:

Peter,

Any idea when the lock n load V2 will ship? I ordered through drone nerds already but have not heard anything. My Flowcine Black Arm ships any day now and will have this same problem of interface when it gets here

As everyone, standard lockNload (V1 and V2) to Mitchell mount is perfect. Usable on crane, on black arm, on dolly...

Also, I want to use the DC out, what is the voltage on it ? 12v ? Can I plug in the lemo to 4 dtaps included in the package ?

Hello Guys,

Max is currently in contact with guys from Flowcine so I believe we will find some working solution really soon.

Berenger - you will have same output of voltage that you will have input. So if you will be running on Large batteries it will be 14V and 12V on small ones. You can contact support if you need additional advices about those matters.

New lock'n'load is ready but we are waiting for carbon plates for full upgrades to be finished. Those will be done in next week. I'm sorry for delay but we can't cut carbon in our CNC facility so we are using subcontractor for it.

Going back from cinegear and I must say that yet again the Beast saved the day. This is the second tradeshow in a row, when the rented Ronin just didnt work well at all. Clearly the rental companies cant tell a 100% working gimbal from a non-working one, and they really shouldnt rent out stuff like that. I heard that it was going out on a gig the day after and I feel sorry for the guys getting that unit :/ However I was very happy to have Caseys Beast ready for the second day, and it performed flawlessly (and not a single battery change for the full day).

As for Black arm connection, we will sort it out during next week.

Same here, last gig on Ronin was a real pain, but the same heavy and tall setup on The Beast is easy, even without a proper balancing. The beast is a beast.
Just wish ACR delivered the remaining units, or else we are just teasing.

Anyone know what the large battery connector is called? I'm trying to find another more advanced charger but don't know what connector I would need to get for it.

EDIT: Jesus! Time to cut those fingernails.
