  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

Maks,

We were led to believe that everything would be going out at once - hence the dismay you are hearing

On July 7th, you told us:
"All accessories listed before will be send the same day, one package. We need only one more cable from list - but those should be in our hands soon."

Also within the same post:
"Shipping timeline for accessories are the same because of last delay"

Could you please clarify - what happened to the cables you indicated were already in stock at BeSteady three months ago?
Perhaps those can be included in each case being shipped out.

This is why my test shoot for the BS4 is delayed.

To be clear, I did not say this was the case as I still don't have a unit to test. My statement was based on existing test footage & The statements from those who have used it. I hope it's movi quick & easy as well.

Thank you,

the bad news is that according to PC Greene tuning PID on BS4 is comparable to other alexmos based gimbal, meaning slow and a pain to get it right. i experimented with both system and i was expecting something in the line of Movi.
but of course this is only speculation until i get an actual unit in my hand and conduct tests myself (no jumping to conclusion!)

Thanks for clarifying Maks. More...

<edited as I overreacted>

1. BS4 has got 100% custom software, no PID's, our own autotune algo, sliders for each motor.
Good news.
2. Cables are accessories. There's no gimbal capable of powering RED directly from camera shelf currently on the market. So 'my gimbal will be worthless without those cables' isn't true. It will be like other devices that are out there right now.
My exact words were "neary useless" & this is more true than you let on. Getting a camera package powered and as small & light a footprint as possible is *the* game with gimbals. Having to invent / engineer solutions & interconnects is possible but a waste of time, money, and adds to the size & bulk of the load and can negatively impact COG, set up time & more. I know because I've been doing just thus for a year now with MoVI's & other gimbals. For instance m10 camera shelf is exactly 1mm too narrow to accommodate AB batt on Epic w/ most side mount batt plates. Guess how many hours and days it took to sort that out? Too many. I'm not interested in wasting any more time because critical parts aren't shipping. Sorry but it's "BS".
3. Again, BS4 software/hardware solution ISN'T ALEXMOS. We are constantly repeating that... We are working directly with Aleksiey
Yes...thank you. Very glad to hear it & will repeat again, I look forward to finding out myself. Current video tests & comments don't support this conclusively yet so the jury is still out as far as I'm concerned. That said, it's pretty clear your software is a layer / wrapper of Alex's technology / chipset and so I'm truthfully a little skeptical that *any* Alexmos chipset driven gimbal will match movi but will continue waiting for the facts to reveal themselves.

Moskalenko and his team, but this solution is so called Hybrid Board, exclusive BeSteady FOUR solution.

Sounds good. Fingers crossed. Not shipping accessories isn't helping to show how easy B4 IMO.

Thank you,

In all fairness, Helix does require a power cable connect from distro box to camera - which they kindly supplied day one with our unit.

The Letus Helix has on-board power for powering the gimbal and RED.

Maks : Questions & comments:

1. Is the BS1 Manager App capable to interact to BS4?
Or should your team upload a new Manager App in order to access the finest adjustments on our units?

2. Should we upload firmware (first thing to do) when units arrives?

Hope we can all start to share info and try to move on, forgetting differences we have/had and concentrate in making the rigs work asap
I wish cables was shipped, but let's try to make the BS4 work anyway, we will always need a Plan B.
Lipo batts are no so friendly and take too much care, as I understand. Also, with only 1 charger for all 4 Lipo batts:

3. How much time takes every batt to be charged?
4. There will be (in a short time) extra chargers available? (So we can save charging time)

IMO, I will always prefer to power camera with a V-mount belt (maybe Remote FF also - Special cable needed, we know), Monitor with LPE6 and BS4 with BS4 Lipos. We prefer not to overload the BS4 as the operator will increase his fatigue no matter the V-mount is on the gyro tray or the XL handle. I think better choice is put away any possible weight...

This way we can shoot all day with no worries about Lipo batts to be charged during the shooting (as they need special care and can't be let alone, unattended during the charge (That's your user manual's recommendation... right?)

Always talking about a Epic X, Dragon, Scarlet rig. Other cameras don't need that kind of power and they maybe can be powered with big lipo, shooting all day without the need of charging any Lipo batts... Just saying.

Maybe we can all together find the best way to make BS4 operate for every special scenario.
Thanks

I agree with most of what you're asking here Dario, but I do like the idea of powering everything with the included batteries. That's what we requested from BeSteady from the very beginning, and that's what we got. (minus the necessary cable to make it work) One charger for all batteries sounds like an issue though...

I tried to figure out what power solution I should rent for my upcoming test shoot. I looked at AB solution, but I don't have the necessary thin Red Lcd cable so I scratched that idea and decided to go with side handle and Redvolts... and run a micro thin HDMI to a smallHD monitor and control the camera with the side handle. I hope I have an existing thin HDMI cable that will be the right length and thickness. The third option I have is to use the Parralinx Arrow to keep it wireless from the monitor on the handle to the camera on the shelf.. but that requires cumbersome battery packs to power each. Why Parralinx hasn't released a version that has batteries integrated into both the transmitter and the receiver by now is beyond me.. So much testing to do!

+1. As I said...best of luck.

Since BeSteady currently lacks an iOS app, I'm looking for a small basic android tablet to carry with the kit. I think the important factors are:

1. Excellent Battery Life.
2. Super thin and light weight, but durable.
3. Just needs bluetooth and wifi, other wireless connections not important.

Can anyone think of other important factors, or recommend a tablet to fit these needs? What will you be using besides the onboard menu?

I've just saw the various initials on the google doc sheet.
I'm back from #37 to #44, probably because of the "can't refund yet policy".

Damn, end of november. I think I'll receive the Eagle Exoskeleton before the Besteady which is kinda weird.
