  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bausch&Lomb CinemaScope Baltars.

I have done some re-housing at KimCamera in Korea lately and got a picture at one point where there are some lenses similar to yours in the background. Looks like someone else is getting a set done too :)

Interesting. I wonder how many of these are around I seen quite a few more but when reading about them, as I understand, they where in really short in supply and only used for quite a short time period before the studios turned to panavision and others.

@Mathias and Bjorn, I noticed that set in the background of Kimcameras posts recently as well. If you check out these images in the background of this Canon FD rehousing it looks like he has disassembled them. Kim also confirms these are the B&L Cinemascope anamorphics. https://imgur.com/a/2i6JvXd Would be curious to know who is getting that set done, maybe you guys could converse about it.

Ha! They allso look allot like a set of Lomo-Hybrid anamorphic lenses he is doing for me at the same time as my FD set :)

LOL Do you think he mislabelled them as the B&L CinemaScopes or he’s using a similar process to rehouse both? They do look suspiciously similar haha. Not to sidetrack the thread but I’m curious what your experience with Kim has been, I’m looking to get a couple sets done with him and maybe some custom work?

I guess he’s using a similar process..
My experience so far with KimCamera is verry, verry good! He is responsive, creative and helpfull. The process takes time(!), but hopefully the end result will be good. I don’t really know how good the lenses will be before I get them back tho..
- but let’s not sidetrack this thread any further :)

I actually emailed David Cox today asking for a status report... they should be all done just about now. Cant wait. Last time we spoke he was very positive about the whole thing. All lenses dissembled, cleaned, fixed, eloxated and engraved. Can not wait to mount them on monstro, only tested with helium before and from looking at the image circle in FF they for sure had lot more to give so think it will look smashing on monstro.

Started to list and watch all classics with this lenses. Tonight its rebel without a cause :)

Today a big wooden box landed on the doorstep outside the office. :)

I been way ocupied with other stuff today so have not more time then to opened the box, and like a small kid on christmas, open all the cases and quickly test them.

I dove into these almost 2 years ago just from curiosity, At first I had no idea if they would preform better or worse than a pinhole lens. Then after some testings I realize that they actually had something, but still before today I had serious dubts that these lenses would be worth fixing, if they where even usable.

But from my quick testings today I can only say that Im super stoked. They preform tons better than I ever thought they would. Possibly better than any anas I ever tested and I think I tested them all. No joke, sure they got the mumps thing going but that I dont care much about. What amazes me how crisp and clear they are after David Cox and his team at Eastern Enterprises cleaned, refurbished and tuned them. They are simply tack sharp, like way sharper than most anas I ever tried.

So here is a first test me running in and out of the office swaping lenses just to see picture. Short shutter and 50fps as I did not have any ND’s still looks smashing I think.

Oh man, those are so dope! Congrats Bjorn!!! Can't wait to see what you do with these.

I have two original Cinemascope lenses for sale
40mm with PL mount!
100mm ready to be mounted with built-in mid-body custom filter box !

These babies are built like tanks!!!

PM for details

This is amazing. These lenses are absolutey wonderful. I mean, sure, you have to crop a bit on one or two of them, due to the portholing. But that's trivial. Distortion can be easily fixed. But I have to say again how astonishing the quality is from these. Well, they should be this sharp. They are bigger than the friggin' camera!

Even that stretching and compression at 6:15 or so is not really a huge deal breaker.

Agree, Especially considering that pulling focus from close range to infiinite on the most modern anas cause quite a stretch as well and even lenses like the Master Anas does not have a 50mm that covers 8k monstro Ana. Monstro is 21.6mm vertical and S35 is 18mm something so these lenses and the master ana´s are simply built for something smaller than full 8k 5:6 ana.

As you can see the ana 50mm master prime sample above actually portholes more than the B&L does.

Was outside the office with this thing today. Shooting some tests. But realized that it was possibly not such good idea. A few pedestriants and even people in cars passing by started to behave seriously strange. After a while I realize that it was not the normal, I dont want to be on camera strange kind of behavior, it was the ”you must be a terrorist and you are going to shoot me with that thing”. :)

All Hydrogen stills, My wife rolled out some paper and snapped these with the red phone. Love how low con it saves the images.
