I'm know I don't have a million zillion logged posts or threads here like others but I'm tying to find out what are REDusers using for their battery configurations for Dragon/Epic? We are mainly looking at Dragon so far based on these threads we've been reading.

I'm concerned about weight like most but I can't seems to get any info from RED site.

Anybody?

Don't know why post count has anything to do with a question being asked, but here's what I do:

That's the Backpack Quickplate (Short) Collection.

It's a quick release system, you'll notice a lot of my gear is. I like the ability to remove the battery plate if I'm going to switch over to REDVOLTS or use house power. Also, one day Red will release this thing:

And this thing:

Which will allow for a might quick shoulder setup and the ability to position the V-Mount plate elsewhere. I do want to get a LEMO to LEMO extension to allow for the batter to be mounted 8-10 feet away, which I believe will work.

That's a V-Mount plate on this Quickplate and I use Red Bricks, Dynacore, GlobalMediaPro, and IDX batteries. I like having large capacity bricks like this for longer run times.

However.....

Here's another interesting setup with 90Wh REDVOLT XLS:

There's something that feels right about this setup using the REDVOLT XL Module. It's certainly better suited for travel and light weight setups.

Power is one of those things that there's no right answer for everybody nor every situation. On nearly all production shoots I'm using V-Mount bricks, so I'd say that's a must have solution. If you are nature guy or travel a lot or need lighter weight setups there's other solutions out there like the above module.

Hope that helps.

Lightest weight is a REDVOLT in the side handle. Most common in the industry in an Anton Bauer Battery on a battery plate behind the body. If you use a battery from RED, you get some nice little tools, like depletion time in seconds instead of just a volts meter.

Okay, thank you both for your insight. We are leaning towards a V-mount set-up but good to know. I read REDVOLTS don't last as long - they are light & small.

Anton Bauer Dionic HC and HCX. Excellent company with excellent customer service. If you need to rent more batts for a job you can get ABs in virtually any city.

It does also depend a bit on where you are and the local market. In the UK, Anton Bauer systems are available, but I would say V-Lock and PAG battery systems are a more common and easy to buy/rent in an emergency.
