  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Base i/o package...

Uhm, yeah, that was a mistake. Fixed on RED.com, sorry for the being the crusher of hopes and dreams.

Hey Brent, will the Magnesium Upgrade Package also come with the DSMC² Base I/O V-Lock Expander?

If not, would there be an option to upgrade to this?

best

you really need the 512s anyway, especially if you want to still be using them in years to come, 120 and 240 are budget media made for the raven only. what if an upgrade path comes one day?

i think im going to go ala carte on the whole thing.
raven brain
4.7 inch monitor
side kick
outrigger handle
i/o vlock expander
4 batteries, probably paq because of the traveler charger and linking
3 512 mags

unless we get some other bits announced soon, ahem…
hoping for a better handle situation with possible focus wheel and quick exposure compensation.

True-ish. I've been talking to a lot of Raven pre-order-ers and for many it's a gateway into the shooting on RED in which it sounds to me like they are looking to build and grow into the bigger beasts. At 4.5K you can certain shoot with 120GB and 240GB on productions with no issues. I know people shooting 6K on 128GB 1.8" REDMAGs and doing big things. Just depends on how and what you are shooting really.

At this point in the year I imagine the packages are locked. RED's done the cost/value/part/allocation work on the pre-orders and packages offered. There is a DSMC2 Side Handle on the horizon, but I don't think it's going to be apart of the current packages. It would surprise me if it did show up there, though RED's surprised me a lot these past few years.

yah. I shoot with 1.8 red mags, and am upgrading to mini mag now that raven is coming, my argument has been all along i would like to simply upgrade my package to include a 240GM mini..for an additional cost of course.. its a bit cheaper for the space that way.. and i feel that it will be a viable card to use with my Epic dragon @@ seems like a pretty reasonable request

A super +1 on this, I would much rather have the V-lock expander than the Redvolt XL solution, since I won't throw away my Red Bricks when upgrading.

jarred made it very clear that those package contents wont change and there is no substitutions, but what he did say was there might be another completely different package option. though if you plan to mix your media with a dragon or weapon in the future, you need the 512s.

When will the Base I/O V-Lock Expander be available to order separately by itself? I pre-ordered the Raven brain on the first day expecting to build up my own custom package, and have been waiting for this module to be available for order. But err... its been months now and I have a feeling i might get the brain in the mail before alot of people but i won't be able to use the camera because i won't have this crucial piece. Which kinda makes me wish i'd ordered the package now instead...

already have plans for a 512 for the epic dragon, the 240 for the raven would serve as a back up, and I already know im gonna need at least one more card...

Yes, will be available a la carte pretty soon.

Nick, been discussed awhile back. Packages are what they are. We did deposits and our supply chain was based upon those. Adding a variation would throw that out of whack. Remember, in Mg Upgrade you are getting brain plus a bunch of AKS for the same price as brain-only for non-upgrader. We did a $5000 price decrease on W Mg Upgrade. We also offered a (now unavailable) $5000 accessory credit. Between the REDVOLT XL Module being "free" and the price drop/credit, the V-Lock Expander Module should be pretty attainable without having to create an alternate package.

Cool - makes sense! Thanks!!
