  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bad news...

Thanks for the update, Jim, but I think everyone here expected further delays because of the situation in Japan. "Made in the U.S.A." is great, but unfortunately it takes catastrophes to remind us just how interconnected the world is -- in every sense. It's pointless for me to say don't sweat these unforeseen delays, because, well, you hold yourself personally responsible for everything at your company. It's the sign of a great leader -- delegate but assume ultimate responsibility. Unfortunately, the burden does grind one down. I truly believe this will be a relative blip in your release schedule, a painful one but a relatively short one. The Japanese people will continue to be in the world's thoughts and prayers, and they will triumph over this adversity as they have many others.

Whiners keep complaining about how the new cameras are "late".

Personally I feel that the R1 is still ahead of its time. Everyone else is still playing catch up to it, and doing so very half-assedly at it that they should be embarrassed. Why Sony thinks it would be okay to charge $3300+ for the addition of a log output setting is pathetic.

Thanks for creating a tool that I can use to make better motion pictures, and deliver astonishing results that are on-budget, on-time, and just plain make people's jaws drop.

Also - props to Kelly,Charles Contreras (bomb squad) and Jason at the Red Store Hollywood for _superb_ customer service.

Thanks for beeing so straightforward, as always. There is no one to blame and you the least. I will wait gladly.

Hi Jim,
This is my first post and just wanted to say thank you for your honesty and extremely hard you and your company have put into these cameras. I know some people will be mad with this news due to schedules and what not, but respect cannot be lost from an event like this. Either way, I'm still saving up for a scarlet. Also, I wanted to let you know how helpful you guys are, I'm really just a beginner in video recording and already am very loyal to this company as how you run RED is helpful no matter the skill level of the costumer. Anyways, the positives far exceed the negatives and thank you again for everything!

Thanks for the openness Jim! That's what makes RED so much better then anyone else. We can wait, and get more use with the MX in the time being

Thank you for the update. This type of specifics is welcome news for those of us waiting for cameras. We all understand the disaster that happened and the affect these have on the world. Thank you for everything you do. This industry is changed for good thanks you to, and I look forward to continuing to be a RED Customer and Evangelist

Are these parts in any of the accessories? Specifically, the SSDs or the Bomb EVF?

Probably just the sensor and a few other minor ones.:scared:

Jim,
I can't image anyone not understanding that life comes about all else in this field. On all sets around the world safety for the crew and actors comes first. The safety of a whole country will come first in my mind before a camera that changes the way we see the world. Right now we need to see the world for what it is. Take what time you need.
See you are NAB.

It took 23 feet of water to slow down Epic, but it couldn't stop it.

Hey Jim, It looks like you went thru fourteen minutes of Hell there. Don't worry, we all have RED ONEs, the RED ONE is good enough to shoot a Rocking Feature or Music Video on. Believe it or not .... there really is NO RUSH. U still da MAN! Ya want some advice, quit smoking and start walking .... get/use a treadmill.

Well... I don't have a Red One camera. I'm just a RED fan/enthousiast/supporter. I will propably buy a Scarlet OR an Epic-S when it will be out and IF I have the cash for it, just because I love to make amateur indy movies and if I can afford to have the best tools to do it, then that tools are a Red Camera and a Red Rocket. Period.
But since it's not in my work to buy a camera, if I can't afford it, I won't have one (for memory I am a cinema student and if I success this year I will graduate and become a professionnal movie editor).

That beeing said... I really don't care if the cameras are out on schedule if it has to do with the Japanese situation. Life and the planet health are way more important. And please note that I am personaly not affraid for me 'cause in France, the radiations won't come strong enough to be that dangerous even if the situation in Japan turns totally bad/apocalyptic ! BUT we are talking about human beeings that are really in danger. So I'd totally prefer them to be able to save them than having a camera. For now, those guys are the real heroes ! Not any soldiers (even french, sorry) that are fighting in Lib... Libya ? (don't know in english) are as much heroes than the people in Japan.

So... One more time... To Jim and everyone at Red : don't worry ! I understand, we understand and I think we all are with you in supporting everyone in Japan.

This might be an opportunity to revisit your dependencies and identify alternates/plan Bs for critical path items. And to put away that blood pressure medication. ;)

I'm impressed that we've made it 10 pages without the inevitable "I'm so frustrated I have to wait" comments; maybe the community is actually maturing. You can certainly add me to the list of folks with Epic-X deposits who don't mind the additional delay.

It looks like the situation at Fukushima is going to get worse before it gets better. Here's hoping that no more lives are lost, including those of the plant workers who have already literally shortened their lives for the good of the general population.

Are Epic Ms affected by Japan in the same way?

Maybe you could really start cranking out Ms? Seems like this is what you might have been suggesting in the OP. Epic Ms are wonderful cameras...

Japan will emerge from this tragedy stronger than it was before. Like a butterfly from a chrysalis, we will all wonder at it's beauty and resilience.

The recovery effort will usher in an era similar to the post war period when Japan rebuilt itself from the ashes. Look to them to launch a massive effort to develop safer renewable energy sources. We will all benefit from this as we benefit from things like camera parts manufactured by their industry.

My thoughts are with the Japanese people.

Thomas Banyacya, the spokesman appointed by the traditional Hopi Elders to bring their prophecy to the world, said there would be four great shakings during the end of the period in which humanity would choose between Life and Oblivion. We've developed incredible power. Here's hoping we still have the will to be humble. The choice is getting more clear.

In that context, delays in Epic and Scarlet are of miniscule significance.

Protect your health, and Life.
