What treats have you fortunate ones brought back?

Well, since RED Rocket was announced before the party, there wasn't much new stuff. There were a lot of the cooler RED-related products from third-party manufacturers that were on hand in booths during the presentations throughout the evening. 4K RED RAY footage was shown and it looked no different than uncompressed and at an incredible data rate that was less than SD Mini-DV, I think Ted said it was like 10MB or something like that when SD Mini-DV is 25MB. Effectively, with RED RAY and RED Rocket, RED has brought REALTIME 4K to the masses and at a price anyone can afford.

The presentations were awesome! Lots of useful information and I no longer fear the RED post workflow in Avid, FCP, or Premiere. It's no longer a confusing and intensive process, it's actually pretty easy and seamless, maybe not at 4K, but 2K is easy peasy. The release of the RED SDK and codec has really brought things up to snuff and RED Rocket and RED RAY are going to seal the deal once they come out.

The raffle was pretty cool, won a lot of FCP books myself and, strangely, lots of hats! I was hoping they would have raffled off a RED One but that was wishful thinking! ;)

10mb/s - that's important.

You missed the Red One raffle? Where did you go? You must have blinked. It was when I started to speed things up.

I missed it too, completely actually, and I had ten tickets :-). Perhaps it wasnt announced in "booth room"? Oh well, I bought them mostly to "support the cause".

Btw, i meant to find you and thank you for what an absolutely incredible job you did putting everything together

No no no. SD MiniDV is 25 Mbits per second (roughly 3MB's a second if I remember correctly). I would say that RED RAY is at least 10MB's a second--although that still seems a little low to me. 15 to 20 MB's a second would make much more sense to me for a 4k image.

But it's not. RED RAY is 10 Mb (not MB) per second.
Believe it or not.

Yes, 10 megabits per second, yes, less than half of DV.

Graeme

10megabits = ~1.3MBytes/s (ie. not 10MBytes/s)

OK, This has got my curiosity, I have not bothered following Red Ray, figured ti was something else, but are you guys really saying ti does 4K at 10mb/s, sounds like a tall order for Red (or most people). So what is it, and what form of codec is it based on?

What form of codec? A clever one!

Did someone say TALL order?

:)

Magic Pixies Mark!

Why Pixies? Well, I was tech editing a book and pixels was mis-spelled as pixies, so that's where I got the idea for Magic Pixies from.
