  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BACKPACK system

I don't see it - all that stuff exists already - in fact, most RED ONE owners have already purchased that stuff - all you need is the riser/quick release, and just keep shooting the old fashioned way -

They're not pushing out old stuff - they're adding new, amazing stuff -

On my feature film shoot, I used all my old RED ONE stuff and even recycled a Bogen quick release system to substitute for the Riser.

All of my crappy old Bogen gear is getting a makeover with the EPIC because, what wasn't beefy enough for the RED ONE, works great with the EPIC.

The writing on the wall is: modularity makes old things new, and opens up all kinds of space to innovate.

This shit is so exciting.

well yeah sure. Of course that stuff all exists already. For a good reason. However, I'm not buying your statement that Red already makes all that stuff for Epic. They make all that stuff for Red One, which is a tank compared to Epic's masaratti. If I were to build out a flexible system to cover all the configurations needed using Red One AKS, the AKS would weigh much more than the camera. Epic needs the more traditional form-function support gear just as much as these new DSMC tools. Thats all I''m saying. Obvioulsly these new AKS are very very cool and an entirely different form factor than traditional cinema support equipment. Its innovative and has an agressive design element that most everyone who shoots with Red products appreciates. Myself included.

My question is not that these are cool or not, but what style of shooting are they targeted towards? I'm a top down thinker. See the big picture and flesh out the details. I'm just starting to get what Red's big-picture is for the DSMC line. But I still am curious what Red's big picutre is and where all these are AKS heading.

Such a Wedge should be made, as the shown config will be very frontheavy with a 4pound lens, a clip-on mattebox with 3 glassfilters and an FF4!
Maybe even one that does not angle up.

That was kind of my thought process...

I'm sure there will be a configuration that will do that, whether it's the wedge, or the clutch possibly using the snake. (if that's still in the works.)

Jarred,

someone brought a concern in a previous thread about this configuration....Does the power cord from the battery plate gets in the way (where it inserts at the bottom)?...in other word is it going to be smashed against the shoulder in hand held mode or is there enough clearance that it never really interferes?

Looking forward to purchasing all this stuff for our Epic M....when they're back in stock that is... ;)

Oh my!
Christmas comes early this year ;-)

My main interest in the Backpack would be rear-mounting my V-lock batteries. However, if the Redvolt modular adapter for Epic is coming anytime in the next couple of months, I would rather wait and use that with 2 or 4 Redvolts. Any idea when Redvolt modules are coming for Epic?

Looks cool but what's the advantage of the backpack over just using the dovetail that was already on the back of the Epic for the modules? Couldn't you have just made a cheeseplate and a shoulder mount that slotted right onto that ? I thought that was the point of the modules. Why not just treat the cheeseplate and shoulder mount just like a module and then save (some of) the weight by not needing the backpack at all? Seems like adding a quick release to a quick release unless I'm missing something ?

Red: please make me something else that beeps when recording and cutting, If I don't have my Redmote attached.

Better, Brook, can you design an adapter plate joining the FMJ topplate to the Backpack accessories ( but with an airgap out the back so that I can keep my Redmote attached?

As it stands, the Redmote has a bit of play when resting on the vmount style connector on the back of the brain. The backpack bolts on via 4 m4 bolts making it really solid. I believe the module adapter will attach in a similar way and then other modules on top of that more solid connection.

I know it's hard, but don't jump to any conclusions yet from what you have seen so far.. its really just a drop in the bucket.

cool...cannot wait to wear my EPIC.
backordered tough :(

Looks great, just curious if there is a way to make the V-Lock battery plate a "smart plate", where the battery power goes to the camera via the contact pins on the back of the camera
versus plugging it into the Power jack? More of a cable-less design like the battery module, but for RED bricks.

That new plate clicks right onto the Quick release system... Your Clutch has a Quick release system on it. If you get the new little assault plate, you can put you 19mm, 15mm universal or the new 15mm light weight adaptor on the front of it...

Then you just click the whole setup right into your Clutch. Boom!!!

Crazy quick... I guess you would need an additional QRP plate...

Another video would be sick!!!!

Great question. I wondered the same thing last night.
