  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Backorder Update - November 8

It just seems as there was no hesitation by RED to say starts shipping DEC 1st. (which by the way led a lot of us to jump at the purchase) Why is there now hesitation to just mention something like generalization on shipping expectations?

I think we jump in because it's a kick ass camera at an amazing price!!!

Eric, with brent's update (that I missed last week and reposted) we'll be able to answer our own questions to a degree once the first people on the list start getting their AL cameras. We won't need updates to know where we stand. It however does not include people that don't visit this board and with multiple orders. We just have to hope that any schools or major camera houses who put in orders for 50 or so. Even if so, I suspect they are going to be flying out soon! I'm doubtful about Christmas, but hopeful for early Jan.

The fact some European orders are going out with Al mounts is a great indication. I suspect there must have been a bulk shipment to RED Europe which would have slowed the progress a little on the N.A side of things.

Point taken. Of course it was because it is a kick ass camera too, but that doesn't ignore my point that they didn't hesitate to sell these stating Dec 1st shipping. A lot of us expected delays but figured we would get updates about our products and worst case shipping scenarios. Whatever, I'm so over this. I'll just have to buy less accessories until I know for sure when it is coming.

No problem Eric.. If you are not happy with what we are doing, we are glad to refund your order. Not sure what you are going on about us announcing shipping on December 1st.. we have been shipping since december 1st... and continue to ship.

We are not going to just guess at dates to make you guys feel better.. right now things change every hour in terms of Scarlet production.. remember that production line is only been shipping for a couple weeks so changes are being made, the line will stop the line will start. Bit of a roller coaster ride.

Hi Jarred, I would love to know when you guys think you'll start shipping out more AL Canon Scarlets. I know things are shifting, and that you're also pumping out Ti mounts, but some info would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, this is a pretty satisfying update in itself!

It says to me "Our estimates aren't concretely better, but not concretely worse. We are still doing our best but can't nail it down any more."

Which to me means that I can still hold out hope for end of February, but don't plan anything until I get my shipping notification.

That's my mindset any way. :-)

no problem guys.. ill still give a backorder update later on today.. but scarlet shipments will not be in it.

Things are looking better than they are worse though.. if that helps :)

Please don't take my statements the wrong way. Cold text in a forum can be read any number of ways and I hope it is not coming off negative. This is NOT my intention.

I was looking for the absolute longest possible wait based on my order time of Nov 3rd, a week, a month, 6 months. If that can't be provided for whatever reason that is fine but not understood. I'll stop asking and wait.

As customers, there is a reason we are all asking. We all understand RED has a lot of pressure on them at the moment. My opinion is that those purchasing products in the tens of thousands of dollars, should have a little more knowledge and contact. That's all. I assume this will change in the future and respect your position currently. I'm sure it is getting very old with everyone asking the same questions.

I absolutely DO NOT wish to cancel my order at this time. I will wait because I feel it is worth it, regardless how uncomfortable or concerning it is. Again, we all appreciate what you guys do and even being on here. Thanks for responding Jarred.

No worries Eric... your comment about us " not hesitating" turned your post from a question to a complaint... trying to sound like we are trick-fucking our customers... and right now is not a good time to throw those kind of implications out there.

I'm really less concerned about when specifically my camera and more about whether it will before December 27th or not. I'm flying to L.A. to work on a project that if I am to shoot it on my Scarlet I will need to make arrangements to rent some 256gb SSDs as I need the extra recording time over the 64s that I currently have. I'm not going to be upset if the answer is "no, you won't get it by then", I just need to know one way or the other so I can make the appropriate arrangements, and I'm trying to be respectful of your request not to overload our bomb squad reps with questions about delivery.

Thanks for coming on the forum and answering questions as best you can.

Gotcha. Again, not my intention. I'll have to try not to use that trick-fuckin' wording in my future posts :) Seriously though thanks man for being honest with the info you can and can't provide. I will now stop asking timeline questions, and get back to the RED.com website to see which battle tested lens to choose for my next purchase.

I think it's very understandable to have expected a ship date. When something is outside of standard business practices, I'd expect it to be highlighted more prominently. It sounds like Jarred feels they have, and that's fine. It's just that many of us customers didn't think our delivery dates would be indeterminable when we purchased our Scarlet-X, though perhaps I should have called and asked - I was trying to avoid bombarding the reps. Knowing that Red is used by many big Hollywood directors, it never crossed my mind that they could get their job done without knowing when their equipment would be ready. I guess, in hindsight, that they just don't worry about it since they have plenty of tools available to them. It's great Jarred spends the time to update us on here, but I do feel that putting a "Available On: Unknown" or "Delivery ETA: Unavailable" on the order page would have gone a long way to correctly set expectations. It doesn't matter at this point - I'll be waiting in line with everyone else... but consider it my note in the suggestion box :)

Sorry, I think I have an odd sense of humor but "trick-fucking" is fucking funny. I will be using this in the future! "Don't you try and trick-fuck me!" Or it could be a new sport! Like, "I pulled a kick-flip while trick-fucking last night. I was stoked!"

For the record. Jarred is right. Everyone from RED mentions time and time again how they sympathize with the customers frustrations and are doing everything they can as fast as they can. I think it's awesome, and in no way does it feel like trickery to me.

To get a piece of technology which creates video files with a resolution outside the league of anything else on the market (especially for a mere 20k investment from myself) is pretty surreal. A friend of mine bought an HXP300 setup for about 15k 5 years ago. Its a shoulder-mount version of an HVX! That's it really! I think having a little perspective here is a good thing. Sometimes reading this forum feels a little like... well, Louis CK (a red owner and user) puts it best here when he was on the Conan O'brian show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk

I heard this saying first from a friend in the motion picture industry, "You can have it fast, inexpensive, and good... pick any two." So i find it a little ironic when filmmakers expect all three.

20k is cheep for what I'm getting, and I'm willing to wait (even if it's in a plane on the runway). And as much as I respect what RED accomplishes, I'm not a fan boy either. I'm just tired of the constant complaining when I'm just looking for a basic update like everyone else. I can only imagine how RED employees feel. Complaining just adds un-needed stress to a stressful situation. Besides, patients is a virtue.

Lastly, my message isn't directed at ANYONE here on this forum specifically. It also has nothing to do with Eric's posts. I just think people should sit back and enjoy the ride a little more. To put it like Louis CK, pretty soon you'll be flying a 4k camera... incredibly. Everybody on every 4k camera "should just constantly be going 'Oh My God! Wow!'"

And Jared, thanks in advance for being a good sport about me teasing your terminology. :) You gotta admit, a few beers and a writing session and "trick-fucking" could be in the next Galifianakis flick. :)
Thanks for all you guys do for your customers. Even bantering with them online. Or letting them banter at you! ;)

I hope you have a smoother-than-expected next few months.
Cheers.

So the first 100 non-event Aluminums might still go out before New Years? ;)
