While on a shoot in Budapest last spring I was introduced to a great RCU (Semote) which will work with Red (Epic & Weapon) and Alexa. The manufacturer claimed the unit works between 100'-300' depending on line of sight.

Last month we had a camera on an Ultimate Arm and needed remote camera control of FPS, Resolutions, Shutter, pretty much everything you'd need when switching speeds on the fly. So I bought the Semote unit with the Red transmitter. I have to say this RCU was rock solid, simple to use, and never lost it's connectivity while inside the vehicle. It has programmable shortcuts which we were able to dial in for quick playback functions.

Truly a fantastic product, which before my trip I'd never heard of. I thought I'd throw it out there in case others are in the same situation needing this kind of remote camera control. Another nice feature is for an extra 500.00 you can buy the Arri transmitter for those who are switching back and forth between systems. Price is roughly 2,500.00 for the controller and 500.00 for each transmitter.

Full Disclosure: I have absolutely nothing to do with the manufacturer or the US distributor (Band Pro).....Just a satisfied and impressed customer.

Looks interesting. How did it communicate with the camera?

Also, what's the pros vs cons of usings this versus something like foolcontrol?

Marcus, it connects via the "control" port on the camera. In the second picture I have the transmitter velcro'ed to the battery. The transmitter has a "y" cable, one for power (P-tap) the other to "control" port.

The range and solid connectivity is far superior to Foolcontrol, which I own and love, but it doesn't have the range and constant connectivity of the Semote. Foolcontrol does give you more in depth control but just doesn't work on an Ultimate Arm or where distance or interference will cause it to loose connection.

Hello Steve, for what is worth there is also a specific cable and wired version of foolcontrol that can connect to the CTRL port that is used in heli and russian arms setups here in France. Also upcoming latitude box from RTmotion will offer robust super long range radio to foolcontrol for drones and many other applications (will require 1 box on each end).

Mikael, tell me more about this hard wire solution......Does it connect to an iPad or iPhone, or do you need a laptop in the vehicle? Can you elaborate on the RT motion radio device? All very interesting.....

Yes the wire connects directly to the iphone / ipad on one end and goes into camera on the other end.
It requires a special version of the app that is a separate purchase from the app store / wifi version (can't distribute apps using this cable in the app store for some obscure iReasons)... Contact me by email if you are interrested.

The RTmotion latitude boxes will be released soon as we work on the last pieces of software/hardware integration. A single receiver will allow RTmotion hand units, knobs and thumbwheels to drive EF or external motors. Foolcontrol will also be able to drive those external motors and will be able to use the same long range robust radio if you add a second box near the iPhone/ iPad (canon battery powered on this end)... Our little project got Mark curious.... So much that he now integrated the whole stuff into his OMOD lineup.

There will be the standalone LATITUDE (with and without battery plate), LATITUDE in OMOD and even a camera side integrated version for DSMC2 brains :-)

We already posted some videos (check on my vimeo link below) and Kris published preliminary info and price on the pryortechnik webpage... More coming very soon as production will start in just a few weeks now...

steve here are a few picts of the wired version in action. The cable can be extended up to 20m and can also power the iPad via 5V adaptor or USB to keep it charged all day.

Mikael,
I signed up for the updates on Latitude. Looks like that's a great solution for the Ultimate Arm problem of need remote camera control. Looking forward to trying it out. Well done!

It may be awesome, but its' price is not. $3000 for the wireless kit is a bit too much.
