  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

awesome little find

I am wondering about inporting them and re housing with proper PROFESSIONAL form factor. would be pretty easy to do...needs a nice 18650 batter hatch, and a nice quality hookup for HDMI...and a nice 5.2v usb connector INSIDE the housing so it will not break off.

form factor is great connectors are TERRIBLE cheap junk.

Needs a 1/4-20 mount as well.

I would be interested in helping make a housing. At our engineering labs I have access to both 3D printing and CNC milling. It would not be that difficult to make an aluminum case. PM me if you want to discuss terms for this project.

Well, technically, yes, it uses WIFI to transmit from one place ( transmiter HDMI in ) to another ( receiver HDMI out ), but as far as I understand, since is Wifi standard 802.11, if you have the IP address of the transmiter, you can stream (in theory) the video from the transmiter to a Web browser or player too..??.

Even better. Obin, any way you can test this?

Guys!! ZERO confusion here.

THIS IS AN HDMI transmitter and receiver period.

forget the word Iphone and Ipad. THis does not apply.

Very very simple. This allows you to connect a HD screen via HDMI to your Epic without a cable. And it's very low delay.

Obin, I think we are all on the same page now. A lot of the confusion came in because the original link you posted was for the iPad version, and you probably meant to link the HDMI only version. I think a lot of people thought you were streaming HDMI out from the EPIC to the iPad which isn't the case at all (in fact not possible with the iPad through hardware connection).

Nice find, Obin. I'm curious how this plugs into the Epic - does the male end on the transmitter fit into the female HDMI output of the Epic or do you need a male/female HDMI extender or other short cable?

Tim, keep me in the loop. should be a very easy build for the guys that do this type thing. I'd like to help you design it for best use in the field if you do decide to build them. Take my advice with the 18650 cells. They are the only battery I know of that has BUILT IN electronics for over discharge protection that don't cost a lot. And chargers are easy to come by as well. Forget powering by usb, that connector is a JOKE. just bypass the internal battery with the 18650.

On the RX side, it has no internal battery so you HAVE to use the MICRO USB connector. the problem is that connector is SO SMALL you can't just pull it off and connect wires, well maybe you can I could not due to small size. Anyway...this thing is RIPE as a board to be used for the basic design for a robust short range hdmi low delay transmitter.

I dont know, but I have the felling, that if you get the IP address and the MAC address from the transmitter ( since is WIFI standard ), you can stream that video with a player like VLC media player or something like that, I'll order one too, to make my own tests..

EDIT: Problably what we need is the right app for the Ipad, but I think, is possible..

For now my plan is to use 2 of them. One for follow focus, and then another from the splitter off the follow focus bit to a directors screen etc. seems it does not allow broadcast to more then one receiver at a time...I could be wrong though as I only have a set at the moment.

thanks for posting this Obin! I have an electrical genius friend here going to try and make this into a more pro product. I will order a couple today and see if I can get a direct contact to the company who makes them as I have some friends in Hong Kong

I think the Ipad will introduce delay. We can't have that. Compression de compression etc.

Looks interesting as well....Dan just called and told me about this...

I have been searching high and low for a SMALL low delay TX for Epic....and Red One for that matter for years. Going to be shooting a feature in Jan (our first as directors) and just want to take all the hassle OUT of video village.....That's why I started this hunt...

Will be shooting a ton of hand held with basic Epic setup...small light... this fits right in

Yea, but how can you "support" ANdriod etc with just an HDMI connection? can the TX broadcast to a phone? does not seem like it....maybe?

What happens when you plug the USB connection into a computer? Does it recognize the device?
