  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

awesome little find

Looks interesting as well....Dan just called and told me about this...

http://www.paralinx.net/

deff want to check it out.
While more expensive, this looks much better being more rugged and with less than 2ms latency. That's less than 1/500th of a second as opposed to 1/4th, or less than one hundredth of the the latency. A quarter of a second is actually quite a long time. Certainly enough to throw off someone near enough to the set to also hear dialog.

The Ipad will lag..

Right, but I am frying my brain here for a solution: for instance, all those devices have something in common, they stream video 1080p, which is way too much for a mobile device like Iphone or Android, to be handle in real time. But, think of this, if the native resolution of the Ipad is, lets say 1024x768, and the Iphone probably 720x480, then, if we would have a device that can transmit at that resolution or let the user to change the streaming bitrate, still is going to look sharp on the Ipad or Iphone, cause is their native resolution, and by saving bandwidth you can gain more speed processing and realtime viewing. after all is just for monitoring, you still have your raw file, you don't need that much quality, but, again is a matter of opinion..

EDIT: I don't need to remind everyone that 1080p, is 1920 x 1080 pixels, that is almost 2K.

Pablo. Go get a Teradak. with a huge lag and tons of bulls88t you have to deal with on set. it may cost you a job one day. as it almost did me.

Try f**king around for 30 min with a device that has WAY to many settings in front of a client to make you look bad. Yea, you look like a total donkey moron.

No Thanks. fewer buttons is BETTER on set.

Working on this...got a few folks reaching out to help me build a proper device. Should be interesting.

Exactly what I was looking for to use with my new R1 MX :) Thanks Obin!

I don't know when the last time you used a teradeck was, but it ain't rocket science. It is extremely reliable, incredibly easy to set up, and has professional connectors and works with SDI. The driector also has the option to hit one button and do screen grabs from the ipad while viewing. This is also massively helpful for scripty. It is also an h264 dailys generator. The functionality of the Teradek is much more than being a video transmitter. If you show up on set and don't know how to make it work, that's your fault, not theirs. No need to shit on another product just because you found something else you like better. Just sayin.

Do you spend 30 min. with a device so simple? Hmm..

Nick, ...been using it for years...it never works correctly. Ever. Have to baby it....check it...wait on it....NO not my thing. I'd prefer to plug and forget
I know exactly how to use the thing. And I can't stand it.

Ok so taking a sh*t on a product may not be a good thing. Has anyone ever timed the startup till live reliable picture is locked time though?

I can't wait to get this little board into some type of usable setup. it's so simple. reliable. and easy to use.

As you can deduce I have found personal heaven with this little guy. And it's been years of searching. Thus my gush of chatter about it.

I hope it helps others as well to "cut the cord" for most of the work you do. I'm excited.

Obin, without adding any battery, would the TX work using ViewFactor Ptap to USB in a continuous charging mode thru mini USB ? One could always use a angled mini usb or duct tape the plug so it doesn't disconnect...

I don't want to get into an argument because I really don't care, but just so you know, with the current Teradeck firmware, none of the stuff you are talking about happens. Yes, when it first came out it had issues, but it's pretty solid now. If it's not working, you are doing it wrong, or you have a bad unit, or no one has updtaed the firmware. . The new units have an internal battery so you don't lose power when you change camera batts, although my AC is pretty good with timing on battery changes, and the teradek is usually up about the same time we are ready to roll.

Cheers, thanks for bringing this little gadget to everyone's attention ;-) I hope this type of tech with hdsdi interface comes out soon.

Did the post get deleted about the Nyrius wireless HDMI. I know I saw it this morning, and I was looking for it on here to buy it, but now it's gone?

Looks just like the Paralinx Arrow, and there's a review on the link by someone who used it with a Scarlet and F3. I know the Arrow is probably a more robust housing, but I just emailed them asking what the specific electronic differences are.

I HATE THAT THIS RELEVANT INFO WAS DELETED WITHOUT ANY COMMENT TO MOVE IT OR TO START A NEW THREAD. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!!! THIS IS GREAT FOR THE INDY GUY. LETS SEE HOW LONG THIS POST LASTS….

\gotta love this forum! thanks Brandon... and Obin will definitely take your battery advice. Im not looking to profit from this either. Just offering to get it to some smart dudes who can "pro it up" for us and see how many of these I can buy in bulk and hopefully keep the cost under $200 for a pro version.

Interesting - but I have to say I really struggled to get it working as well and looked also like an idiot pitching wireless video village to the producers of Portlandia. I couldn't even get them to look at it again - they didnt trust it would work n set. Thats all it takes. so even if they have worked things out... they have a tough road back to credibility amongst us early adopters.
