  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Auxiliary power: best option?

As I build out bigger rigs for various jobs, I'm faced with the issue of how to power everything. On an 'all bells & whistles' rig, I'll end up powering:

- SmallHD monitor
- Preston Microforce
- Wireless FF
- Teradek

This is resulting in new challenges for a guy whose inclination and experience is lightweight run & gun! So:

1. Obviously I should be doing some cutting and soldering to standardize on one power connection for all my accessories. What's the best choice? P-tap? That's the way I've started to go.

2. What's the best way to distribute power to everything? Can I find some kind of 4-to-1 P-tap power block that will mount on a rail, plug into the ultimate power source (the P-tap on the x backplate) and give me 4 P-tap sockets to power-up what I need?

EDIT: 'x backplate'? That's not what I typed. Is there some reason not to mention the name of an accessory company with initials W and C?!

God I hate having my words messed with by something non-human...

Thanks!

Mike

I hoping red could make a small volt battery that is not a battery but multiple Dtap out's. Something we could stick in one of the compartments of the battery modules and get power out.
Im don't have a degree in electronics but to me that seems like quite an easy thing to do. Something looking like a redvolt and holding a few female D-tap and 4pin lemo's. That way the poer outs could be moved from one side to the others and removed when not wanted and we would still have 3 battery compartments + handle available on the quad battery module and on the dual one then there you would have handle + 1. Anybody making such device and got it approved and working would sell alot I think. As it's a problem with external power from the pro I/o and the quad bat modules does not give whats wanted.

Thanks for adding the link to this thread Bob! This is the one I'm planning on acquiring - has everything I need for now. Very nice design.

Mike mentioned that he was looking for something where he could standardize all of his power connectors - individual choice. However, I really like the flexibility of the Jetpack - I really need those lemo's - and they already have cables for the AJA units. How they ever did that is no small feat - spent a number of hours trying to get that specific connector. Finally broke down and cannibalized an AC adapter just to power a unit.

If I ever needed more powertap connectors, the AB 1x4 fits the bill.

That would be cool... Related question - will the +1 module have D-tap out?
