I'm trying to record a scratch track for syncing, but I must be missing something. I've read the manual twice, but none of the screenshots match the current firmware.

When I plug in a mic, nothing happens to the audio meters or to the audio on the headphone jack on the back of the camera.

Why are track 3 and 4 "enabled", but 1 and 2 are "disabled"? Do I need to something specific to enable the two mic inputs on the front of the Scarlet?

Is there a paragraph that exists that walks one through how to record a scratch track on a Scarlet with a random mic?

watching the video i would blame the rode mic. they dont work with scarlet or epic. unless you have an adaptor. I would also check the settings again. maybe switch from balanced to unbalanced or any of the combinations in the menu

Thanks. How do I check the settings? The current manual doesn't match the current OS on these cameras, and I don't see any audio settings except for the ones I see when I touch the meters on the monitor, all of which I think is in that video.

Also, what's the technical reason this mic doesn't work with this camera? Isn't it just plain audio on the wire?

Hi Neil,

Go to Settings-->Audio/Video-->Audio Channels.

There you can enable Channels 1 and 2. You can also disable 3 and 4 from there.

You can also select "Unbalanced" or "48v" if you mic requires Phantom Power.

thanks guys

Awesome, thanks! I missed that menu item, but it seems to work fine.

Why are the front inputs disabled by default?

Thanks again!

No reason to record audio if there isn't a mic plugged in.

Enable them when you want to record sound in camera. Disable them if you aren't capturing sound in camera.

I totally get that. But, come on. The audio menus on the Scarlet could use some love. It took me 50 hours to reach the end of the manual and the menus. That's too long. This seems like a super basic thing...

Not to derail this thread... but what is the smallest possible microphones to put in the two jacks in the front? I want something that I do not even notice that it's there just to pick up some scratch sound during takes. We usually shoot without sound but I think it's a good way to get "take comments" and stuff when shooting.

I have seen these small button mic's and bought some but they did not work, so please if anyone have a good link where I can find such devices please post.

Chiming in. these instructions do not work with firmware 3.3.14. All those options, including 48v, are gone. a huge problem for me on my last shoot. i like to capture scratch using those tiny mics that are on ebay, but now they don't work.

Hmmmm... I'd be worried - all those controls are still available in my verison of 3.3.14. :-)

Settings>>Audio/Video>>Audio Channels - to enable them.

The Olympus ME-52W works well for scratch audio on my Scarlet.

Yep, same here, no more +48V option to select (earlier firmware was OK!).
