  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Attitude adjustment...

Very happy about my BT Scarlet purchase! This year will be amazing. Then, upgrade to Dragon within the next year hopefully!

Brandon jealous of your local ;)

I second that!!

When you look at RED...what they have done, where they are presently, and what is to become of their future, it's hard not to get ecstatic. More RED's in the community, no matter what flavor, forces post-labs, production companies, ad agencies, producers, directors, etc to seriously consider it as their high-end digital acquisition tool. This is good for all of us. I think it's just taking longer for those who recently purchased an Epic to see the benefit. Trust me, it's there.

Boring details...

Obviously, tonight is going to flood BOMB SQUAD reps' phones and inboxes. As Jim said in original post, expect delayed response and processing times for the very near future. We'll keep the troops here for another couple of hours tonight and then be back at it in AM (ie, resume normal hours of operation).

Alright, folks. BOMB SQUAD is closing up shop for the night. They'll get to your emails and voicemails when they are back in the office tomorrow...

Sleep tight BOMB SQUAD :)

the r1 mx with ssd reader is the big story here for me.. as someone else almost said earlier 4.5k for 4k.. basically a $4k/4k epic

i didn't sell our r1 accessories..

Haha at least you didnt cry in fetal position as you press send to your sales rep to cancel ;)

I got it resolved.

Bryan Wilcox sales rep of the year in my books ;)
Here here. Bryan sent us an invoice for our Epic + Meizler package already. Perhaps the best sales rep I have ever dealt with at any company.

What I love about this announcement is how it is just strategically higher than the original Red One's original price 6 years ago... yes, read that again. A 4K camera... 6 YEARS AGO...

At 25K, for dragon... Boom... deal.

Now if there could only be 72 hour sale on RED ROCKET CARDS! Something like Cost plus $100 for long term owners! Would that make those of you who feel upset feel a little better?

(Assuming, of course, RR Cards aren't sold at cost already!) :D

It's the one side of all of this that few 'new owners' people consider.... Shooting 5K adds up in hard drive purchases and processing time.

I think your right, is a bit of a shock initially. But when when the money guys walk onto a set and don't see a backup epic ... they will start asking questions ... and if the production contract doesn't have raw as one of the the final deliverables ... they will asking questions ... and if the production costs are "arri'sh" ... they will ask questions - all this means is there will be more demand for red.

Of "Yes" men and Future cameras.

Of "Yes" men and Future cameras.

As I said before, everything in the electronics world changes... usually for the better, cheaper and faster. EPIC and Scarlet just did. Right now.

We have built an incredibly efficient factory in Irvine, California and over time learned how to make EPICs in quantity, lowered our assembly costs, found better suppliers and fully paid off our NRE. When we assembled the 1st EPIC camera in Stage 6 at RED Studios Hollywood it took our team 12 hours. It took two more days to de-bug. Today we can assemble an EPIC in 13 minutes and 95+% need no re-work after diagnostics and testing. It is a testament to our manufacturing team and supply chain teams.

Since our costs are now significantly lower we are re-pricing our cameras as of now.

For those of you that purchased a new Scarlet ( not battle tested ) or EPIC brain on or after Oct. 1st 2012, the next time you order accessories from RED you will receive a discount to use towards that purchase. $1000 for Scarlet and $4000 for EPIC. Talk to your Bomb Squad representative when you are ready to use this discount.

Now… here is the new pricing:

5K EPIC-X Brain- $19,000

5K EPIC-X Monochrome Brain- $20,000

5K EPIC-M Brain- $24,000

5K/4K Scarlet Brain- $7,950

4.5K RED ONE M-X Battle Tested- $4000 (includes SSD recording module). The RED ONE is End of Life. Battle tested is all that will be available from here on out.

Due to high anticipated volumes, plan on extended response and processing times.

Dragon sensor upgrade is not included for any EPIC system purchased at the new pricing going forward. It will be a $6K upgrade.

Pricing is being updated on www.red.com as I post this.

Jim

Thank you Jim for doing the right thing for the world at large. Will make things very competitive for the other companies going forwards to compete with. I'm not a "Yes Man", more a "Ah ha man". The problem with Yes men, particularly selfish ones, is they can whip around on their heals and become"No men" when things don't go right for them personally, and you can't trust their opinions in business. They are more "Yeah man", rather than "yes", like a mug in a pub that will go along with anything you say, as long as you are buying. The rest of us hopefully weigh things up and say thank you or no thanks.

I wondered why you released the Epic at the price when they came out, the present price is closer to what I expected, as I knew you could break up costs over years. Actually your price less discount, is more or less, the exact price I expected you could minimise down to at the bottom of the pricing range. But the cameras where far customised and featured, so that was not going to happen. Same with the Scarlet pricing.

New camera:
I came to the conclusion long ago, that due to under use from health issues and also type of use that could get damage, I needed either a more ruggedised weather resistant all in one sealed unit, or a cheaper replaceable lens mount unit. So, I reluctantly switched over to the 3k fixed Scarlet. However, for most of the majority of people, that are on the bottom end, need pretty much the same, asking as it has a good fixed lens (or water, big weather and dust sealed full wired auto manual mount lens ) they should have very little issues in ownership, freak weather or accident. So, a complete fixed or cross mountable, s16 micro 4/3rds (s35 left out) 4k shoot able package, set up for cinema, photographer, eng, and doco modes, + auto set and ride features, would still be handy. I can suspect the new cameras you have coming, but in hope, there might be one of these.

Having said all of that, that Red One special, looks interesting.

Thanks again Jim, have a happy holiday season.

It makes me a little sad. I just lost a little respect for Red. Different markets will have different opinions but from where I stand, they just devalued their profile as a pro camera outfit - you don't see Arri doing that.

Not yet. What's interesting to me is that Sony has yet to even announce their prices on the F5 or F55. One expects they'll have to react accordingly in February (almost 4 months from now).

More choices for cinematographers are great, but I feel bad for rental houses who bought a lot of hardware, and now have to adjust their rental prices to pay for their investment. A 50% price reduction is rough from a customer point of view -- great if you're a new owner.

I'm also a little disappointed that the Non-Recoverable Engineering expenses have not yet affected any of the accessories. Maybe it will, eventually. If the Meizler Module shipped for $5000 (for example), that'd be a heckuva bargain.

I am definitely up for that.
