  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Atomos Samurai and Scarlett-X - VOTE HERE!

I have gone through 2 Samurais and both failed to work properly with first my Red One then my new Epic. Has anyone got a Samurai working with an Epic? My new Samurai recorded images initially but the HDSDI trigger would turn it on but not turn it off. Then the second time I used it images became broken up on screen and the recorded images had instabilities. I tried it on another video camera with 108050i and the same problem. I have given up and returned it.

I guess I'm lucky. Mine has worked very well once the 2.8 firmware came around. But I should note that I have a Scarlet.

@ Bob

Thanks for the update at least they're honest, Middle May it is . Thanks Mike

"-Monitoring functions - focus peaking, zebra and false color have been added. On-screen controls are also available to configure these new monitoring functions."

Hello, old friends.

Is proper file naming (same as camera) a Scarlet/Epic firmware upgrade or an ATOMOS one?

Had one for a short time. Not much difference in the quality. Waste of money, sent it back

Got my third Samurai and it all works ! I was happy to be patient with Atomos as its an amazing price point and was not surprised by initial problems. Remember Red One? Build 3.0 doesn't seem to offer too much of interest as the monitoring functions are of limited value as the monitor screen is at best only a "confidence" monitor. The other new functions may be of value and time will tell.

Anybody using v3? Any issues?

Match batch and Renaming files

Match batch and Renaming files

Has anyone found a way to batch rename samurai files to match the red file names?
I imagine theirs only one thing they have in common....time created.

Atomos has said for over six months this is comming but if there's a way to do it with a third party ap.
I'd consider buying 2.

But I can't sit at the end of day and copy paste file names.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you emailed ATOMOS to try and get a timeline for the filename thing? I'm actually holding out for this reason too... That and XLRs are making the decision between the Samurai and a PIX too close to call.

yes I have emailed them 3 times regarding the same issue.
Penny has responded nicely every time but it's the same answer.

I have mentioned that IF these guys want their devices to play with the big kids this is really important feature for the conform process.

I really like the PIX too but If i remember correctly ....it doesn't record the smaller formats/codecs that the samurai does.
I think samurai will do really well once more it can record offspeeds/high speed and get camera file meta data into its file structure.

On small shows...if you are ontop of your incamera looks on the day....you could have prores_HQ or LT daylies with audio and TC at the end of the day
Direct to post and everyone else even faster.

The PIX 240 will record ProRes and DNxHD from 36Mbps, 8 bit up to 220Mbps, 10 bit.

Working on an apple script to do the conversion.
now if someone could provide me with a few red clips and corresponding samurai clips
I could test it.
It wouldn't take more than 4 clips from each device a couple seconds in duration.

Anyone who has both willing to help out?

Thx
R

Atomos Samurai and Red Names

Atomos Samurai and Red Names

Looks like the target date for matching file names is September around IBC.

Has anybody heard any news about the Samurai recording with the Red clip names?

This is from the hyperdeck-thread:

"Our German distributor for Atomos told me that the new firmware 4.0.2 (from Dec. 17th) should support RED filenaming on the Samurai. Adjustable audio delay too."

Anyone care to shed some light on this?
