  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

17-50mm RED Pro Zoom...

MMB-1 with optional 143mm back will squeeze onto it (there's enough expansion room in the clamp). Have not seen if it will cover out to 17mm because, well, have not seen the lens yet. But it covers other 16mm lenses so I suspect so. Can also use the MB20-II and I know that will cover no sweat.

Mitch, what about the Vocas matt box?

Which one? Should work on the MB450.

Just ordered!!!

I can't wait... I think it might become our workhorse when it arrives :)

Would 4x4 cover the 17mm with the mmb1? They always did my 16mm, but I just dont' know with the recessed front element.

I don't know if there is a solution for this lens with the MMB1 right now. It has a 144mm front. It will probably fit if you remove the rear bellows section, maybe, but I think that is 143mm... Don't own a MMB1 so I can't say for sure.

Thanks Jeff, I guess I just have some testing to do when it gets here

where is it then... i thought we were supposed to be able to order by now.?....DUH totally suckered, i checked every day. First day i don't check and it's live....ORDERED...!!

As I stated, if you remove the rear bellows from the MMB-1, there is the clamp-on ring. On the standard MMB-1 this is 138mm, but there is an optional back which is 143mm, same as the back of the MB20-II. There is enough expansion room in the clamp to fit the 144mm front of the 17-50 zoom, and this has been confirmed to me personally by Jarred. So either the MMB-1 or the MB20-II can be used with the 17-50 if the mattebox is properly configured.

As far as 4x4 filters go, I will need to see a lens in front of me to test to know for sure. It depends on the size of the front element, it's protrusion and the particular design of the lens with its ray traces. Simply no way for me to know at this point.

Thanks Mitch, greatly appreciated. I actually put a call into you guys today, I think I am just gonna bite the bullet, and then figure out if the 4x4's will work...if not guess its time to upgrade...

Thanks again

Hi,

It would be great to get the physical dimension of the lens written down somewhere sometime soon.

I've been patiently waiting, checking everyday, and was happy to have the chance to order yesterday. I have the 18-85, which is a great lens, but there are times when something smaller and lighter would really help.

I expect it's going to be a "go to" lens for me, even with the full prime set. So I'd like to get a case ordered now.

Innerspace needs some dimensions to get working on a case.

I'd welcome a chance to give them that information.

Cheers,

Steve

I've seen this lense at the Tropicana at NAB and i must say i've been very inpressed by its compactness and apparent build quality.

Very nice on the EPIC.

I'd like to see some tests.

Lenses started making it into the wild today, so I am sure you'll be hearing real-world testing results soon, Antoine.

I ordered mine yesterday, less than an hour after they went live, Pretty sure I made the top ten. Was told today to hold tight and Red will let me know when it comes off back order. If some lenses made it into the wild, it must have been very few.

I ordered pretty quick as well, what was your number Mark? What matte you using?

Thanks Mitch. Hey can someone at RED confirm the front diameter (widest) on the RED Mattebox? Logic would dictate that it's at least 144, but would like to confirm.

BTW, my guess would be with that large of a front element, you'd need at least 4x5.65 to cover without vignetting from the filter holders.

who all has received theirs? Any thoughts or test with the lens yet?

Order number. 279056660 not sure what that means. Anyway , can wait to use this baby. I'm using a Vocas 450 and an old Chroziel MB. Love the Vocas.

The front housing is that large, but I don't know exactly how large the front element is. Could be much smaller and recessed.

But I'm sure they didn't have the lens front that large for no reason.
