looking good! Option A makes more sense to me, because it looks like on Option B a large v mount might protrude from the side and make the camera awkward to handle... plus vertical mounting seems more secure and more inline with industry standards..

Would there be a receiver option as well or is this intended only for monitoring on a mobile device?

This is funny. I'm in the middle of the provisional planning of my future Komodo rig and came to the conclusion that if I want a clean and compact solution, I have to buy a smaller V-mount battery. And guess: It would be mounted sideways, like ATOM 600 KV Option B! The new IDX IMICRO-98 and -150 are so small that they are not much larger than two Canon BP-955 and BP-975 respectively. And the weight should also be comparable. IDX told me that battery orientation is not a factor in operational safety / reliability.

Here's the link: http://www.idxtek.com/products/imicro-98

The main advantage of option B is that the battery won't interfere with Komodos connectors, that's why I'd prefer B over A, combined with small V-Mount batteries like the ones mentioned above.

Looks like a neat solution for those who need it. Well done!

Option A definitely is more of a traditional approach with the battery orientation and would slightly more secure if the battery orientation was a concern. The benefit of Option B is that it wouldn't obstruct the bottom I/O area and would compliment the KOMODO well.

That's amazing! and yes, a lot of V-mount batteries have a tighter form factor now and would work great with Option B.

Mounting V-Mounts sideways is just such a liability. V-Mount is a weak connection in general, sideways even more so.

Option A ist far more universial, better fitted to regular v-mounts, I guess even changing batteries from the operator / not the AC side would be faster/better. Handling and user friendliness is such a meticulous field that even changing the orientation of the battery for fast swaps can make 0.2s difference which can again make the differences whether it feels good to use or not. That's what differentiates good from ok products in the long run. It's just a tiny thing, but locking v-mounts top->down might be such a thing compared right->left. Just my opinion though.

So for me, there is nothing really going for version B, except for a just slightly smaller possible footprint, which you could have even smaller by using the intended canon batteries instead for ultra small builds and use just the 600 KV but off camera.

A all the way for me!

I think you should make one with the same back as komodo with the dual canon slots. Makes it so much lighter and able to hot swap

It would be nice to have a D-Tap connector built in to pass power to focus motors for example. I concur that having the option to pass the canon BP batteries through would be nice for hot swapping, but it’s not a necessity. Also it’s important that it matches the quality/design language of the Komodo which from the rendering above it seems to so far!

Thanks for your input, Andreas! We designed the ATOM 600 KV as an inline transmitter so that you can keep it "built" as well as offer an alternative battery option for those already having V-Mount batteries.

D-Tap won't be possible without compromising reliability. Our intent is to provide users with the ability to use a larger battery (which most v-mounts now have the additional d-tap out) and of course the main function is wireless video transmission.

Is it able to be mounted to other cams pretty easily?

Would love to see it in the $600 range.

Great that you are asking in the first place! I'm aware of the inline idea, just wanted to point out that minimizing the footprint to an extreme always comes with compromises and the universality of the KV 600 is something I wouldn't trade in for some last percent of smaller package size.

Have you thought about offering a buffer solution within the KV 600? As it does so many things already - could you theoretically squeeze in a buffer battery?
As there is already the conversion happening, any space left for a buffer?

This wouldn't be a dealbreaker of course if not, it's just something that - as people pointed out before - is something many people would appreciate, e.g. the dual Canon-Slot request.

Option A looks like the way to go.
You can fit these GDU bad boys in there and it won't throw the whole thing off balance.

Unless you go for something like those GDU Mini V-Locks, then Option B is asking for trouble.

Komodo is meant to be an action/crash/drone cam first and foremost.
So anything that is not centered perfectly or protrudes from the sides is a no-go.

@Mike Lu, any chance you will offer a flexible but protected SDI input from the camera out?
Would suck if after a few hard bumps the camera SDI is knocked out of its place.

+ Big One. A is the way to go.
If it's possible to have antennas not mushroom, but in a small box ( C version ). It will be great benefit for longevity of antennas.

Greatly appreciate you asking our opinion, Mike.

Any word on a dedicated receiver to pair with this transmitter?

If so, any chance that receiver could have a Canon BP plate on it? 3 battery different systems and chargers isn't something anyone wants to deal with :)

Option A seems to be the way to go in my eyes.

Having 3 separate bundles would be ideal.

A package bundled with 1 transmitter and 2 receivers // 1 transmitter and 1 receiver // Just the transmitter.

Not sure what is possible, but prices of $1,200 // $900 // $600 would make me very happy.
