Atlas Lens Co. - Orion Series 2X Anamorphic Prime Lenses

Hello

What size of mattebox do you use? is it possible 4x4 mattebox will cover even 40mm Atlas lens? Or it's necessary to use 4x5.6?

thank you

In the end of 2018 I had Nick Kova's Atlas Orion 40mm to play for two weeks. This is some of the footage I shot on my very first day with the lens.

60fps on the Sony A7s II, S35 crop enabled. 3.56:1 Aspect Ratio.
Fotodiox ND Throttle for controlling exposure.
1/48th shutter, T2.8, ISO1600.

Color done with the Phantom Luts by Joel Famularo. Use the code "Tito" for 20% off on the Phantom LUTs.

Atlas Orion 40mm | T2.5 | 2.35:1 | 4:3 | 4K | VMI Lens Flare Test

Atlas Orion 40mm | T2.5 | 2.35:1 | 4:3 | 4K | VMI Lens Test

Atlas Orion 40mm | T2.5 | 18:9 | 4:3 | 4K | VMI Lens Test

Atlas Orion 40mm | T4.0 | 2.35:1 | 4:3 | 4K | VMI Lens Test

VMI hosted an Anamorphic and Large Sensor Event at CVP's Creative Experience Space, on Newman Street, Fitzrovia, London.

As part of this event we created a set of demonstration films as a comparison of popular anamorphic, and full frame lenses. Each shot was designed to show the differences in bokeh, DoF, levels of detail, and skin tone rendition. We also included some examples of anamorphic flare in other videos.

The camera used was the Sony Venice. We shot in both 6K, to allow for full frame 3:2 spherical capture, and 4K for the 4:3 anamorphic geometry. The camera was set to 500 ISO, 3200K, and captured at X-OCN LT.

The lighting was also at 3200K and consisted of
1x Gemini,
1x Sumo
2x 150w Dedo lamps.

Where possible the exposure was set to T2.5 on a Sekonic meter with no reference to histograms or other exposure aids.

LENS:
Atlas Orion 40mm
T-Stop: 2.5, 4.0

CAMERA:
Sony Venice
Sensor Format: 4:3
Resolution: 4K
Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1 and 18:9
ISO: 500
Colour Temp: 3200K

Oh man! Can't wait to pick these up. If you could mix and match your sets, which three would you pick?

I would definitely go 40-100mm instead of 32-80mm

As on monstro a the 32mm Ana feels as just as wide as an 15mm spherical on S35 sensor... how often do you want something that wide? Not to often I think.

The 100mm feels like a 50mm on s35... how often do you use something longer than 50mm? quite often, no?

So to me I would definitely pick the longer set and hope that they make even longer lenses. And I think I would think the same even if using Gemin, dragon or helium. Super wide ana like 32mm is usually not where you find gold. Sure can be nice with a super wide once in a while but 40mm is defiantly more in the zone as I see it.

But yes never wrong to get all, and possibly two of each. :)

Anyone needed to have their in for service or colimation yet?
