  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

At the heart of Atlas Lens Co. Orion Series is a true Front Anamorphic Group. Orion Series lenses deliver the striking beauty of painterly waterfall bokeh, disproportionate breathing, and signature, but controlled flare. These optical characteristics are now available as part of your cinematic storytelling toolkit with a mechanical functionality that that won't leave you feeling confounded by compromise.

Forrest Schultz and I developed these lenses because as cinematographers, we wanted to add anamorphic primes to our shooting repertoire. It became our mission to deliver lenses that we would be proud and excited to shoot with, but that would be accessible to a wide range of content creators as well.
Orion Series Anamorphic Lenses are built to be a universal filmmaking tool - each focal length has a consistent 110mm outer diameter front, consistent Focus and Iris Gear placement, and high precision optomechanical tolerances that deliver great results every time. The Orion Series primes can be changed quickly between EF and PL mount in minutes with a simple T6 driver in a clean environment. As far as we know these are the world’s first EF mountable Anamorphic Primes.

We are currently showing our first 65mm T2 prototypes, and will be delivering single lenses and 3 lens sets in the First Quarter of 2018 to deposit holders. The first three lenses in the set will be the 40mm, 65mm, and 100mm T2 primes - with more to follow before the end of 2018.

I had a chance to play with the 65mm prototype at Keslow Camera last friday and was very pleased by the prospect of affordable scope lenses that appear to be very well made mechanically and display some nice images. Can't wait until they have a full set.

So after June 5, the set of three lenses would cost $23,995? I thought it was $19,995.
It's out of my budget this year, but planning to get new lenses next year so if I go this route it would be after June 5.
 
Peter , it was great to meet you ! Thanks for your kind words - if you come to Cinegear you will get to meet Forrest Schultz, my cofounder and a true wizard who these lenses would not exist without.

That is correct Chris, after June 5th at 9am pst the special preorder discount window will close, and the list price of the lenses will be $7,995 per lens. Deposit for three lens set will still be $7,995.

The best advice I could give is scratch together the deposit, you can pay the balance whenever you are ready to and will still receive the discount, your order will register your place in line, but if you can't pay the balance until 2019 you will still be eligible for the discount ! The deposit is fully refundable if you choose to pull out at any time, but obviously you lose your place in line.

Ordered the single lens, and planning on upgrading to the 3 lenses set, as soon as my CC allows it. Damn NAB sales.

Can you disclose the next focal lenghts you'll build ?

50mm, 85mm & 150mm ?

About the coating and the flare look, you said in the closed thread it was a work in progress.
I would love to have the typical Lomo Roundfront 35mm blue horizontal flare with small blue orbs and white glimmer. But with less grey & blue veil.
 
So will you be making V2's of these lenses sometime in the future or are all these specs and designs gonna stick for a while? Also, If I order soon will I still be in the first wave?
 
I would also be interested in future focal lengths. Knowing what may come up in the coming years would help me put a deposit down on the initial set of 3.

After 40,65,100 we are doing 32,50,80 within a year of shipping the first units.

Within a year after that aiming to do some more telephoto focal lengths.

We are going to get them right the first time, so no V2 of these on the roadmap at all.

If you order before the June 5, 2017 9am PST cutoff you will be in the first batch.
 
Is this true that these lenses' design is a Rectilux+Cinelux rehousing? This is what I read in other forums & the images actually in your videos are the exact same as what I get from my Rectilux+Cinelux combo... Sorry just asking :(
 
I think it's been stated (many many times) that these are original design, which is done from the ground up.

If you are offering the same kind of price for the B set, you'll sell a lot of these once they are all released.
32-40-50-65-80-100 will be a great set.

You can consider me in the first batch of the second set as well.

I think I might sell my Hawk C after my next feature.
 
When do you think there will be a prototype ready of the 40 or 100mm lengths? Excited to see those!
 
Super excited by the prospect of these. This market is wide open at this price point - glad to see ya'll fighting the good fight! I'll likely be putting money down after cine expo.
