  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Atlas Lens Co. - Orion Series 2X Anamorphic Prime Lenses

I think they said in an interview that the 65mm should cover VV. I'm sure Dan will chime in
 
Hi Guys,

The Orion Series lenses are optimized and designed for a 24.89x18.66mm maximum aperture - so our performance is maximized around those parameters. The 65 seems like it covers 8K VV in 6:5 pretty OK so far, as do our other focal length designs... Will have some more time to test (hopefully on my own future 8KVV sensor) in late fall / early winter. We don't advertise these as "Full Frame Lenses" because Anamorphic is just a very different approach, so we don't want people to get the wrong idea (example 32:9 full frame ? what is "full frame" - there is no single standard - YET)

yes the 40 will be interesting. I know the 100 will look great, thats easy. Easy right dan ;)

Just now seeing these lenses. They look amazing! It is a shame I wasn't around for the pre-order window... :( Maybe I'll be able to get in on some "B" set lenses.
 
Dan, have you done any testing with Monstro VV? From looking at Phil's format comparator, it looks like 7K FF on Monstro is about the same height as ARRI Open Gate...but Monstro is wider. Trying to figure out how that width difference plays out when using anamorphic lenses?

I should be hands on with a monstro within the next two weeks (fingers crossed)...

Best (subjective) mode to use would be 7K 6:5 2x anamorphic - or 7.5K 6:5 2x... or a very large 4:3 8K 2x - give you a nice extra wide 2.66:1

TBD on 8K Monstro 6:5 2x...
 
Dan very interested to see these. A rental house near me pre-ordered so i'll get my hands on 'em soon enough!
 
I'm definitely interested in some test footage from the 40mm & 100mm! The 65 looks really impressive - Is there a specific release date yet for the set?

Picking up my Monstro from Fedex and have some family life to attend to, had the pleasure of briefly meeting with Mr. Chris Probst this afternoon for a little sneak preview.
 
That's great to hear about more footage coming soon, can't wait!

Ok good to know things are still on track, and can't wait to see some stuff from the Monstro!
