  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Atlas Lens Co. - Orion Series 2X Anamorphic Prime Lenses

Set of (40,65,100) ordered today right now would ship towards end of September.

Set of (32,50,80) ordered today right now would most likely ship before Q2 2019.

Hi Dan! Possibly looking to purchase individual lenses. With that said, ordering an individual lens either the 40,65 or 100, what is the shipment time on that vs a kit?!

Thanks for your interest!

a 40 , 65 or 100 ordered today would ship end of September / early October.

A 32 / 50 or 80 would ship early next year - definitely before Q2 2019.

Best,

Dan

Are there any already sold to rental houses in Belgium/netherlands that anybody knows off?
If somebody receives a set, I would love to see a comparison video between all the focal lengths. I might be interested in buying a single lens(selling off a lot of lenses). But I would need to choose a focal lenght that is pretty good all around. so prob 40mm, 50mm or 65mm.

Kind regards,

Thanks for there test. Lenses look great with a nice flavour although I am not sure I would run them at f2 as they are not sharp enough for me personnally especially the 40mm. F2.8 sees them beginning to move into the useable range. No surprise here as almost all the older anamorphic sets I have used get a bit ropy under f2.8 assuming they even open up this wide. Watching the focus racks not sure focus was nailed on some of the shallow focus shots which does the lenses no favours although it is indicative how tough F2 on an anamorphic lens would be on a living moving subject.

Ana’s to me starts to look good at about double the stops compared to sphericals.
I used to have a set of hawk-c’s and rarly used them under f3. Not that they where not sharp but Its simply not so nice when the eyes are sharp but the forhead and the ears are out of focus :)

As you squize in twice the width you also get double the Y focus falloff with ana’s. Lots of times to much of the good stuff is simply to much.

I've already had the chance to try and test the first three lenses: 40-65-100mm.

They are very well built, with nice markings, very robust end stops for the scales and mechanics that feel very solid. They are close in shape and weight to Panavision G-Series anamorphics, with 114mm fronts, so those used to Master Primes or S4 will feel like they are still using a spherical setup, which is nice these days with the smaller cameras we are getting used to.

Wide-Open they are a bit soft and focus can be very tricky, but they are usable at T2.0 if you need to or happen to like the "out of focus" look. By T2.8 they are sharp and contrasty enough and they look terrific between T4.0 and T8.0, with T5.6 being probably the sweet-spot (as happens with most anamorphics out there), with very fine details in the image being shown and a lot of sharpness. The flares are very classic, with the blue streak line you associate with vintage Panavisions or Todd-AO 35's. I would have liked to test how they hold against windows and hot practical sources, but I barely had them in my hands for about an hour.

If you use them wide-open you may notice that the bokeh is not a perfect oval, which is specially noticiable on the 100mm. You need to close a bit to get it. Maybe the T2.0 is a bit generous marking too, but nothing too dramatic.

Overall they are a no brainer and they are going to be extremely popular IMHO. Well done Dan!

Hi,
I find lot of breathing in the test videos...is this quite common in anamorphics?
Thanks

Most Anamorphic lenses breath like crazy. The only one Ive seen that does not is the Zeiss Master Anamorphic series.
Maybe some of the Panavision lenses breath less, or the Vantage.... anybody?
