  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ASIC issue...

We are quite a bit late. We recognize this. We also have upped the specs and capability quite a bit. If you check out our 1st announcement to what we were going to release, you will see a tremendous amount of capability increase... plus modularity. The program is exponentially better than in the beginning. But the complexity and modularity increase takes time. We hope for your patience while we prepare to deliver an unprecedented amount of features and capability.

"Single most complicated ASIC ever."

That alone is awesome.

I wont stand for a 30 day delay! I'll go buy some other 5k raw, S35, DSLR form factor camera. Wait....

Oh I wasn't whining or moaning about waiting that long, you've kept my interest, and gotten me excited multiple times over pictures, if something Metal can do that to me, I can stick it out

Best of luck! And sleep sound, the RED community are more faithful than the most die-hard college basketball fans. Coming from UK, that's saying something...

Although, you could ease the pain with exciting new images :)

ASICs are done in layers... a metal spin means that the overall design is good but one or more of the layers (of 30) needs to be changed. It is a MUCH better situation than a full re-spin. One takes a month... the other can take several months.

I have to say that 95+% of our ASIC works great. This is quite a feat considering that industry experts say this is the single most complicated ASIC ever attempted.

Jim

Sorry for the setback. But it is hopefully a minor one in the overall scope of the project. 30 layers?! Jeez!

I have no problems, everything that has ever changed was for the better as far as I'm concerned. I really didn't like the original scarlet design and the whole fixed lens idea, and while the concept of 3k for 3k was cool it wasn't for me at all. Now with the modular system, interchangeable lens options for scarlet 2/3" I'm totally on board and have been watching the forums ever since.

I could wait a long time for the camera to come out, due to money and just no expectations anymore. I'm just going to let what happens happen.

I will say though that I can't wait until we get to start seeing test footage from the 2/3" models

Man, I can't imagine how frustrating that is for you guys. Really appreciate the update though. I think honesty and transparency is always better than sugar coating.

OK, minus one point for being late, plus about a million points for honesty in business. Yes folks, that's not a typo - an honest and transparent business model - who'da thunk it? Certainly nobody used to dealing with the Sonys, Canons etc.

Oh, and plus another couple million points for the extra features and capabilities you guys shoehorn into these things every day you work on them.

I can hardly wait. But I will...

BTW... this is the Side Module Upgrade. We have added a run/stop button and user settings buttons to the module. It is shown on Scarlet 8X fixed, but is the same for any brain.

Thanks for the update. I'm so stoked for the Scarlet release.

This is great news actually. The last time- I believe the high-speed frame rates went up. This could be very nice. I look forward to the final results.

This is why you guys are great! Thanks again for the updates; your hard work and dedication to your product and customers has turned RED into a one of a kind business that continues to blow me away.

Thanks again, can't wait to see you guys pull this off!

Best of luck and encouragement to your team on this. Its pretty transparent how there's been a lot of emotional investment from you guys on this endeavour, and I'm sure a setback like this means even more to you guys than it could to us. Will still look forward to seeing a Scarlet in my hands whenever that will be.

Like somebody else said, this is not bad news for most Red One owners, we have more time to prepare financially and still have a great camera to work with in the mean time. It's all good with the world, take your time.... it sounds like Epic is getting more epic with every announcement.

Also.... very glad you re-located the run/stop button, makes much more sense for it to be in the front. Scarlet looks awesome!

Cheers,

Milan

Looking forward to the Nov 30th announcement Jim. Courage under fire. That is commendable no matter what the outcome.

WIKI: The non-recurring engineering cost of an ASIC can run into the millions of dollars.
