  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Arri 65mm digital camera

Does that mean I should start buy medium format glass on Ebay, as long as it is affordable?

Frank, I've been wondering that myself. Only problem is I don't know which medium format glass to go for. I thought Mamiya or Pentax since they're cheap but not a lot of medium format glass will adapt to the other so unless there's specific mounts or brands suggested I've just been stuck sitting on the fence. :/

Its a good question that would be nice to know the answer to, I've been pondering this also. Since there is no standard for the format, id hope that Red would make a camera body with a mount system close enough to the sensor to "adapt out" to the popular lenses available. Id guess that Pentax, Mamiya, Hasselblad.... all would be potential lens adapters assuming the other technical issues are workable like leaf shutters pulled out of the way etc. Most of these are cheap by comparison and many available.

It's going to rent with a set of rehoused Hasselblad lenses designed for the camera with a larger PL mount. Don't think you'll be able to put your own glass on it anyway.

Congrats to Arri for the achievement. ...

My comment was more about what I imagine RED is cooking since a while, call it RED 645 or whatever. ;o)

But yes, pushing camera tech can't hurt the art of film-making. ;o) Congrats to every achievement, I agree.

Any guess as to availability and day rate? I've emailed CSC already but won't hear back from them until at least tomorrow... (Also probably going there in person for other unrelated matters)

It was also perceived that way and it was funny, as well as Bill's, hence the :D

:)

Arri appear to have taken the logical route and just taken a bigger bite of the same silicon for their larger sensor.

I'd love to see a Dragon based chip on the same principle - same pixel design, just doubled in each direction, for a 70mm diagonal in motion pic terms, or MF height in stills terms.

The whole pipe is then pretty scalable on existing stuff.

That would just be too cool, not sure it would fit in the epic body though. :)
