  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Arri 65mm digital camera

And I bet you will NEVER be able to buy it. I expect a Panavision and IMAX announcement soon.

Do you bet or are you sure ?

I really hope you are wrong. I've never liked the idea that a painter must rent his brush to work, even when the brush costs $500K ;-)

Well - all the arguments are moot, or partially moot; since there is a dearth of lenses available that will cover the format. Scarcity = high prices, high prices = not many outside of rental will be able to buy for many years into the future... if ever.

Unless of course someone is sitting on crates of 1980's Sovscope 70 lenses?

Cuz of price point or it not being sold to the public? Will it be a panavision rental only deal?

I'm still ready to buy that EPIC-645...

Same here, from the moment it was announced, and because I miss too much my MF cameras... And for the same reasons that after going MF I never felt happy with 35mm Still cameras...

I have an almost certain filling that it would be exactly the same with a 645 MF Epic... I would drop the S35mm sensor in a nanosecond for more then one reason for the day I shoot.

There is quite a few lenses that covers that sensor and host more than enough quality and cost almost nothing. Medium format still lenses that has been left on dusty shelves together with the analog mid format still cameras.... To modify them for cinema use is actually quite simple. So to get a really good set of 65mm lenses together should not cost much more than buying a set of low cost 35mm lenses.

The bigger the sensor the less important is the lens sharpness etc 65mm to 35mm the ratio is about 1/4....

I'd venture to say that buying up some medium format lenses now - would be a pretty smart move.

Arri is telling me the cam is rental only, ugh what a drag

I've got a couple sets of Med format Mamiya glass in the equipment room... haven't used them in years. Not the greatest lenses, but could maybe be rehoused?

You know if Arri is talking 65mm, then RED is probably testing it. Remember that roadmap a long time ago, look how much of it is here. Eliminate the 3k as we've grown too much for 3k anymore. It leave two left.

NAB next year should be interesting.

No, it's not only a rental game. I can see shooting 9k IMAX 65mm wildlife stuff. Was it a coincidence that IMAX and Red were together at last years NAB? I think not.

28K bring it on! nah but really I'd be happy with large formats even if it was a mere 4 or 6k... (mere is a relative term lol)
