  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ARRI 4K Super 35 Camera Will be Launched Next Month

Sorry, it’s an internal dev build, so not something that can be shared publicly. As the camera is already announced, I would imagine that the public release version will be coming shortly.

From reading Phil's post, it seems it will be better to wait for a upcoming beta. Also, did your Dev build also include an IDT and ODTs for ARRI LOGC4 for an ACES Color Managed Workflow?

Here is a link to I believe are all of the .Mov and Mp4 FILES that were included along with the ARRIRAW .MXF files for those who didn't want to deal with getting it from a server.

The link is good for 7 days!!

SendGB link--3.77GB 25 FILES

Are those in rec709 ??

Alex,

Yeah, all of the MOV and .MP4 files from ARRI are in REC709 and not LOG or any other Color Space. However, I have downloaded some of the ARRIRAW files and I can export a file out as either LOGC4 or one of these other formats and upload it to SendGB for you to download if that would help.

I attempted an ACES workflow without a LOGC4 IDT with a ProRes 4444XQ LOGC4 file out of ART.

ACES NODE BASED TO ACES PROJECT BASED WORKFLOW

UNCHECK "USE COLOR SPACE AWARE GRADING TOOLS"IN THE PROJECT ACES SETTINGS OR THEY WON'T LOOK THE SAME.

DAVINCI WIDE GAMUT WORKFLOW

In the Davinci Wide Gamut Workflow, I removed the "ARRI TONE LMT" because it was meant for ACES and you may have to adjust the CURVE slightly as well. I changed the " TIMELINE WORKING LUMINANCE" from whatever the default was to "CUSTOM" "10000" nits. The Davinci Wide Gamut Workflow , IMHO, can be a little too agressive on TONE-MAPPING in some situations like this scene. So by choosing "CUSTOM" and "10000" nits it resembles other workflow's initial Tone-Mapping appearance. You can always bring the nit value down for more tone mapping control if you want to.

Some of files with faces like the one you make the examples above or boy and girl flowers story, underwater close up with red light ( would be nice in LogC4 ProRes 444 (1080P for sake of size). If you have spare time on your hands. Thanks.

Alex,

Alright then, the ARRIRAW file of the girl with the pilot goggles from the Encounters video " TREASURE HUNT" I already have downloaded. However, the ARRIRAW Underwater Scene from "SIRENS" I don't have yet but I can download it and unfortunately the ARRIRAW file from " The Swing" is just too big at 174GB if I remember correctly. If I can find some space on a harddrive I may attempt to download it because I wanted to try to recover some of those highlights from those windows. I'm on a Tablet typing now and will probably be back at home on my laptop in about 1 or 2 hours then add the time to download and you probably looking at a total of about 6 to 7 hours from now for the ones I don't have down loaded yet. But I can do the girl in goggles from " Treasure Hunt" as soon as I get home.

I do recall seeing support for IDT, not sure weather the ODT was the correct one. The ODT was not specifically named LOGC4. I generally do not use ACES workflow.

Alright Han, thanks!

None of the baked files are camera originals, are they? They're all re-encoded to 1080p? (Not a complaint, just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything.)

That horse+girl salt-flat shot is pretty amazing; looks natural light, early afternoon, but everything is captured colour accurate. Same with the water hut things.

Mike,

I don't think any of those .mp4 or .mov files were camera original files. I think that they were just so that you could preview what the much larger ARRIRAW files looked like before you downloaded them. The files I posted above are transcoded from the ARRI REFERENCE TOOL from the ARRIRAW file originals in the highest PRORES (4444XQ) possible and in LOGC4. I guess since the files didn't come directly from ARRI and instead from the different Cinematographers who shot these scenes with the Alexa 35 that they felt the ARRIRAW files they made available were sufficient enough. Maybe ARRI will post their own PRORES files directly from the Alexa 35 to download in the future.

Mike to further answer your question:

I pushed the TIGERINE PRORES LOGC4 scene as far as I could push a Prores file and for just a Prores file I'm really impressed. I can't wait to try one of the ARRIRAW files in an actual LOGC4 workflow in Resolve.

EXPORTED OUT OF THE ARRI REFERENCE TOOL IN REC709(NOT TRANSFORMED FROM LOGC4 TO REC709 IN NLE)

Waiting for a girl-boy story with flowers (very cinematic, closed to every day needs: skin, flu, windows change in exposure...). You are goooood mate.

Alex,

I will probably have to do that one starting early in the morning. I started to download it an it said it was going to take about 18 to 19 hours for the whole 174GB file to download. So if someone is reading this and has a much faster internet download speed to get the 174GB "SWING" 5 minute ARRIRAW file and trancode some scenes to PRORES 4444XQ LOGC4, that would be much appreciated. I using the rest of today to download other ARRIRAW files to transcode.

You are too good. 4-5 files were more then enough. It would be good if they were challenging files. But in any way good job, have some rest. AND don't take any desires personal.

Alex,

Thanks! I didn't hear about anybody else's experience with the Alexa 35 ARRIRAW files so I figured some of the guys on this forum and in this thread probably didn't want to deal with either downloading from a serve or 20 to 174GB ARRIRAW files. I was going to make some PRORES 4444XQ LOGC4 files from the ARRIRAW files so that I could offload the ARRIRAW files to my external 5TB harddrive. So when you made your request, I thought I would "kill 2 birds with one stone". I really wanted the "SWING" ARRIRAW file myself personally more than really any of the other ones. So i'm going to try to find a way to get us both and anyone else that file.:sorrow::thumbsup:

It's enough to play around.
