  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

April shipping update

whats the issue? you ordered raven, then switched to SW but have not been allocated yet?

Jarred announced that the Switchers will be having their cameras shipped before NAB, After two week this is not the case. lot of People that was allocated and paid before NAB don't have the camera shipped yet and they don't know when the camera will be shipped.

Jarred and Brent have both posted updates since the one you cited, explaining the situation.

situation?

The Annoying part is at this point they don't know when the cameras will be shipped. This is quite hard to understand. Something is not right.

i posted in the raven que but also wanted to post here too:

"i was allocated for the i/o vlock raven pkg yesterday at 2:30pm, ordered sept 24th at 9:47pm.
i also want to apologize if i rubbed anyone the wrong way in the last month of trying to figure this whole thing out, im not a new red user, just a new red purchaser. so i wasnt clear on how all this worked. it's not like i came from the dslr game like 90 percent of the raven orders are probably coming from and im not a child, ive been a represented, local 600 union DP for over 20 years. so all im saying is watch out, if you have no tolerance for people questioning the situations then you have a long year a head of you! thank you everyone that supported me. ive definitely learned some lessons and im sure that will continue."

Matt things seem to be moving at red. it could be some random thing holding up shipment (a lens mount, a mini mag, an OLPF) good news you are allocated and it should happen very soon

Yes, starting with the fact that a lot more people switched from Raven to Scarlet-W than they expected... which threw off a lot of their predictions. If it hadn't been for so many switchers, I'd probably have my Scarlet-W by now. :)

Assuming you switched to S-W, it should be very soon. I was allocated yesterday (Dec 7th)

I wish Jason, but I did not switch. Normal Scarlet W packager ordered Dec 11th

Going nuts here crossing fingers....

If there is ANY defense of some of the harping that has gone on and on here on REDuser, I think it is just that many of the newer generations have grown accustomed to instant gratification. i.e., years ago eating a candy bar was a treat... now it is a right.

And when something like building out a mountain of orders happens in real-world time, they just don't know how to handle that. The wiser ones (like yourself) will look back on their experience with RED as a teaching moment that will likely have caused them to temper their expectations---and anxiety levels---which should in turn increase their lifespan. '-)

I think there is more to it than a spoiled generation. Red's openness inadvertently creates opportunities for misunderstandings, which is only natural in such a fluid endeavor where they share so much info. For example, the 'caught up by' post by Jarred that confused many, including myself, into thinking it was for accessories in general, not just Raven switchers or whoever. Brent had to clarify it more than once if I recall. Also, predicting dates items will ship, but then having a policy in place that allows people that ordered another product to essentially skip in front of others in that line creates anxiety in most humans. It's like being at the post office or a TSA line at the airport, and the guard keeps opening the rope to let more people in near the front. You might even be asked to step backwards. But these people were in another line already so they're not cheating the system, but it resets expectations that may have taken hold.

Poor Jordan Levy, of RedUser fame and renown, has been pretty vocal, but who can blame him? Raven was said to ship in March, and in most situations, that means a company will ship in some quantity. In Raven's case, it was apparently more of a trickle for the past month, so people that ordered within an hour or two of announcement (or minutes) are still waiting from what I've seen.

Or people like me learn that it makes sense to cancel an order with Red and go straight to a dealer as they will likely have cameras in stock before ever getting a later timestamp order fulfilled with Red. It's a little bit of the wild west here. You have to stay nimble and tuned in to know the latest, and it changes constantly week to week. I might even have some erroneous info in this post. I haven't been diligently following these few Recon threads closely the past week or so.

Maybe Red provides too much information? I don't know, I prefer to see posts from them saying what their latest estimates are. Also human nature maybe, for them to share and for us to want to know. It comes back to bite when there are hiccups or more switchers to Scarlet-W than expected, or whatever.

Frankly, I wished they didn't make extremely complex cameras that shot extremely high resolutions. I wish they made very simple chocolate covered mushrooms that shot extremely high resolutions. ;)

This is spot on. Even more specifically, it's like people lined up at the post office (Raven) and then realized they actually wanted to go to the bank (Scarlet-W) and they got skipped to the front of the line. It is what it is, almost all of those orders are fulfilled as far as I can tell. But it does put a damper on me slamming down an order for the Scarlet-W package (before I even fully finished reading the specs, I just knew I had to get my order in ASAP) and seeing "Ships March" (well, I ordered in the first couple hours, I should be in there, right?) and now I'm not sure I'll see my camera before May.

I know there are setbacks and delays, plus NAB had to have taken a ton of energy, so I'm not trying to be too hard on RED. They've been far more accommodating than any other camera company I've ever been the customer of. I just think "spoiled" is not a fair assessment. In fact I've told people I know in real life, who don't post on REDuser, that the reason they haven't received their Scarlet-W preorder is because people switching from Raven got bumped to the front of the line. The response was unanimously along the lines of "for real?", "seriously?" and "god, that's kinda bullshit". I understand that it was a gesture extended to Raven customers, and RED has every right to do it, but a decision like that can (and does) make some customers happy and others upset.

That is actually bogus. The Scarlet pre-order customer didn't get bumped to the front of the line because they switched; they were already AT the front of the line. Red basically gave them the choice of waiting for their Ravens or paying extra to keep their place in line by upgrading to a Scarlet instead.

I'm not a switcher, I'm semi-patiently waiting for my Scarlet-W allocation.

Right... so you have a bunch of people in line at the grocery store for apples. Waiting in line since September, carts full of apples. Myself and many others said "Nah, apple's aren't my thing, I'm waiting for oranges. December 10th rolls around and we all get in line with oranges in our carts. As we're waiting, guys start coming to the front of our line, pulling oranges out of our carts and saying "well I've been waiting since September!".

They aren't the same line, they aren't the same camera. So, no, I have to disagree, they weren't "already AT the front of the line". They were buying a completely different product with completely different specs with a completely different release date. Did some regret their pre-order when the Scarlet-W was announced? Sure, I bet a lot did, that's why they switched. But they were given a pretty huge queue advantage for simply placing a $500 preorder months before. EDIT: And it's not like there was a massive surplus of cameras that would render the switcher a non-issue for those of us who preordered Scarlet-W immediately. From what I can tell, it's been at least a month or so delay for anyone who didn't switch from Raven.

"If you switched from Raven to Scarlet-W (till the end of next week)"

Come on, Jarred's post was like dangling a juicy steak in front of a pack of hungry dogs. The natural way of saying it if he was talking to the people awaiting shipping would be to talk in past tense "If you have switched from Raven to Scarlet-W..." but instead he's quite clearly telling Raven orders there's still time to switch. By addressing it so passively he managed to upsell many people to a Scarlet while apparently just giving a shipping update, doesn't get much smoother than that. He seems like a nice guy but he is obviously also a successful businessman and I doubt he was that oblivious to what he was doing or what response he'd get.

well part of the reason which i believe is like this.

RED announces the Raven. WOW COOL I WANT ONE.
Raven comes.
next day RED announces Scarlet-W....

"WTF WTF I WOULD HAVE WANTED THAT INSTEAD>>>>>>!!!"

makes perfect sense. Many of us who were into the raven were just looking for a few more things like lens mounts and olpfs. waiting to announce the SW would have been way way worse than letting those of us switch who would have bought any new red cam they had announced right away.

This discussion has gone for 88 pages of this post. I don't think there is any deeper understanding of the allocations than what we have now. Red have sort of system that works for them, and isn't going to change, and thats fine. I think that we are better off working together to update each other with what the allocations are at now from users that got their systems recently, to tell the next set of users when approximately they might get theirs, and to help people that might have been missed by red in their allocations.
I think it would be a more productive thing to do.

I agree.

Any confirmed allocations from Dec 10th+ Scarlet-W (non-Raven, non-Dragon) preorders?
That's my date, and I gots nuttin' yet!
