  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

April shipping update

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere on this thread...
On red.com, it says prices go up on April 22nd for Raven. Jarred also posted this in another thread: "Also, just a heads up, the price for Raven will be going up at NAB... so if you are planning on jumping in it would probably be a good idea to get your place in line before that announcement as we will honor the existing price up till then."
So it is still not clear to me when is the actual last day one can make a deposit at red.com for Raven and still get the old price. I would think April 21st, but would love a confirmation just to be sure.

well we are hoping to hear that some raven packages went out along with those scarlet packages yesterday, if not, we are back to square one with not understanding and not knowing what the hell is going on. unless their is a raven brain production issue, that would be the only thing that made sense, but hopefully jarred or brent chimes in about it…

It sounds like since it's the first few weeks of allocation, the Raven production lines are very small; they're dedicated to getting MG upgrades and now scarlet-w brains manufactured in droves, and gradually switching some of the lines over to Raven as well. Basically, the way I see it is that the raven brain production is at a bare minimum, and they have to fulfill all those bulk camera orders that came up right away. I know the Raven was announced first and that sucks from your perspective Jordan, but keep in mind that Red is a business and give general priority to those who are paying more money (CF weapons came out first, and MG upgrades have priority over SW, ect.) so you can always pay the extra $4k and get an ever better camera virtually right away. I would totally do that with the MG weapon if the price gap wasn't so large, but I'll wait my turn because I have no other choice ha!
 
Here's what I don't understand, Jordan. How many times does it have to be explained? Brent (not Brett) has told you multiple times in multiple threads that they're going out by timestamp, but that doesn't mean they're being built by timestamp. They were trying to get the majority of Scarlets out. So it's likely, as Josiah said above, that the lines are mostly producing Scarlets at this point. When that winds down and Ravens start coming down the lines they'll come out exponentially. But right now it's a trickle.

These guys are saints with how they reply to some of us. I've seen many posts where people have accused RED of wronging them in some fashion, and usually Brent comes on here and finds a reasonable solution for them, even though he doesn't have to (and he shouldn't with the way most people talk to him). Look at what happened with the Ursa. We should all be glad that Jarred and Brent sound off here at all and add things to our cameras (.5K and a case) rather than take them away.

From my point of view, you're accusing them of skipping you. But do you honestly think they're screwing us over? I mean, do you really think a company whose president chimes in on a message board to update us and answer our question is going to screw you over? Do you really think they're saying that they're honoring timestamps and then not honoring timestamps? Do you really think that? Because that's what all of your comments and questions sound like. You always mention your position in the queue like none of the rest of us even matter and like they somehow owe you a camera AND an explanation. And you're not the only one. You're just the most outspoken right now. And while I can just go somewhere else and ignore this, like you, I'm looking for updates. But unlike you I'm sitting here (a few hours behind you in the queue mind you) patiently waiting for my Raven package. I'm sorry this salty reply is mostly aimed at you, but for what it's worth know that it's not just you that prompted this reply.

Your camera will come when it comes. This is how RED launches go. They take time because they are a good company that does their best to bring everyone along. Be patient. Jarred and Brent are amazing to come on here and help us with problems and answers that have been asked over and over and are, honestly, usually so insignificant when you think about what they actually have to deal with day to day. But they come on here and still do it. So can we please not burden them over and over with the same questions?

no no no, you have me totally wrong. im actually not worried at all. it's just i thought it was all made clear to us about what was happening, but then packages including the vlock expander were allocated right after they said, my rep said and a full discussion going on at the red store, that that particular accessory wouldnt be available until april 8th, so happily confused! and im not at all accusing anyone of skipping me, im like 10th on the reduser que, i was just hoping that SOME raven pkgs got allocated only because i thought that was also cleared up when brent made a point that if there are 10x pkgs to be allocated, then 5x wil be scarlet and 5x would be raven ones. so we have seen 3x on reduser mentioned, and i was hoping there would be some people that say that they had the raven ones allocated too. at this point i fully understand it wouldnt be me. thats all. id actually be fine with mine after nab at this point so i can see what all is going on as far as new accessories and plan accordingly.
 
Patience. Patience. I can only imagine how insane building a camera is. I think we tend to forget how crazy the process is. This might come off as random but there is a great video that plays when you play one of the Gran Turismo games on Playstation. It pretty much shows a car being built from scratch. And I don't mean like putting car doors and engines in. I mean it shows giant trucks mining steel from a mountain , that same steel going to a processing plant and being melted down, then those sheets being brought to a plant etc etc. I know its tough to wait but asking every single day about a camera is a bit much. I know exactly how you feel and I get ancy myself. I thought I would of gotten my camera sooner and when it didn't arrive I just told myself to quit getting all crazy and it will come when it comes. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it anyways honestly. Your camera will come when its ready. In the meantime write some screenplays, storyboard something, play some PS4..... :) Hang in there everyone.

That's cool man. Then I guess, just consider that that's how it sounds to an outsider. And thank you for not taking my comments the wrong way either.

I think Brent was saying that yeah if 10 go out 5 would be Raven and 5 would be Scarlet. I just think that what's happening right now is that they've made 10 cameras but 9 were Scarlet and 1 was a Raven unfortunately (to give an example only).

I'm with you though, I can't wait to hear about the first Raven package allocation! Let's hope it's soon.

part of the problem is that im a bit laid up after a small surgery and i basically have reduser, facebook and the OJ story…oh and too much coffee.

I'll not preach the patience you recognize, and good on you for doing so. Instead, I will acknowledge that when I first became a RED customer back in 2007 I was antsy just like everyone here. And that continued through the Epic upgrade from the RED One. I began getting control of my impatience during the Dragon release and have finally conquered my fretting to the point where I only feel impatience once or twice a day, usually when I come to REDuser, rather than hourly.

And the way I gained control was by breaking the process of purchasing a RED camera into two parts... active and passive. Active when I put in an order, passive while I wait for RED to fulfill the order, then active again when I pay for the camera.

I know some here think passive-agression will get them their camera sooner. Maybe, but it never worked for me.

And even now I have had a RED CF WEAPON sitting on my tripod with a cup towel draped over it to protect it from any household dust that might be floating around. And I'M WAITING ON A V-LOCK I/O MOD... sorry... waiting on a V-lock module so I CAN TURN THE DAMN... sorry again (deep breaths) so I can turn the darn thing on.

RED has taught me patience over the years... and I can't tell you how good it feels TO HAVE CONTROL OVER MY EMOTIONS!!!!

Had an insanely busy 7 days of very intense shooting so no forum time.

Yesterday and today, nothing to do so I'm back on the forums seeing if anyone got allocated? LOL.

When you're busy, no time to think about allocation; when you're free it's back to the computer obsessing about S-W allocation, LOL.
 
I'm waiting for the email that say's that my Scarlet-W brain has been allocated, but in tiny print at the bottom says "April Fools".

Would totally fall for it too, being the meanest trick ever.

Possibly some staffing re allocation in preparation for the show. Probably best to table expectations until after NAB. If you get notification before, all golden. But more patience rather than less.
