Apple tablet: Thoughts?

Some of Italians have got totally crazy:

"Creator of hit iMussolini iPhone app sets sights on iPad:

The creator of an application featuring speeches by the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini,
a surprise hit among Italian iPhone users, said Thursday he is setting his sights on an iPad version.
"I will certainly make iMussolini compatible for the iPad," said Luigi Marino the day after Apple boss
Steve Jobs launched the wildly anticipated tablet computer in San Francisco, expected in Europe later this year.
Italians are downloading iMussolini, which features audio, text and video of Mussolini's speeches,
at a rate of around 1,000 a day, said Marino, who launched the software a week ago."

After Hitler's complaining on iPad, now we've got iMussolini!

Who is next????

I'm really hoping for this too. I'm sure some genius will figure out how to get TC from BNC into that connector. If they can put a man on the moon, they can get timecode into this thing surely.

I'm guessing TC over WiFi would be too laggy to be precise? I don't know this stuff.

Or, use the headphone jack. I'm assuming the iPad can take headphones with a mic input like the iPod Touch/iPhone. Use a 1/4" to 1/8" tip/ring/sleeve cable.

It's perfect for school work, lectures, text books, internet, the potential for word processing combing with itunes U and much much more.

you replace a ton of clutter with this thing.

There isn't any "Word" processing on this thing. UNless you count iWork, whcih you really can't. In the best of times iWork blows. But the version of iWork on the iPad is hobbled even more. No "Word" file export. Just Pages and pdf. Even the main version of iWork allows for Word DOc export.

They hobbled this new device more then anyone can even imagine. My first laptop had 8 MBs of ram and a 600 MB hard drive. This thing should have a full OS. It should do everything that a Macbook could do. Sure, I'd be fine with a small SSD drive, and no FW or external display port, etc. It should have been an Air-like tablet.

Doesn't anyone here have a problem with a company that intentional hobbles a product just to protect another line.

I've realized that Apple no longer makes products for its current users, it makes products for new users. What does an iPhone an iPad have to do with the long history of rabid Apple fans that supported the company when everyone thought they were a fringe company.

I am so tired of not having products that are clearly possible.

(p.s. - just today I put my sons iTouch on my iPod dock--but it wasn't compatible. Evil pricks. Reminds me of every other cellphone company that makes you buy a new car adapter with every new cell phone.?

Now I know what this thread reminds me of... Avatar!

Remember when the trailer came out and everyone trashed it for looking like a video game?

There was a small group who actually saw the preview as it was intended to be seen who told everyone to hold their criticism because they would be embarrassed later...

I've heard of more than one skeptic who dismissed the iPad during the presentation, spouting random features it should have, but saw the light when they got to use one in the play area.

A little faith goes a long way!

I think that criticism in this case is not caused by not seeing the potential, but by seeing far greater potential than Apple did.

I disagree. It's easy to say you want every feature available in every device, but if you look at what they set out to design:

1. Compete with $289 Kindle monochrome e-reader
2. Make it do a lot more
3. Create a device that sits between a smart-phone and a lap top

Now, start with the price. $499 is inspired. Perfect price.

Does it do more than a Kindle? I don't think anyone would say it doesn't.

Does it sit between a smart phone and laptop? I think it does.

Yes, I would like a camera and for it to use FLASH. I'm sure they thought of that. They don't need us to tell them the obvious.

If it doesn't have it, there is a good reason. Maybe it would make it too expensive, maybe too big, maybe to hot.

But saying it doesn't have a place because you have no use for it doesn't really make sense.

I don't use hair pins, but I don't criticize them for existing.

If they brought out a $3,000 iPad with everything in it (yes, this is what it would cost) I would probably buy it, but I'm guessing I would be pretty lonely!

As Red owners we are used to people attacking the thing we love, and feel most of those attacks are unfounded and misguided.

We shouldn't be shooting arrows.

Well, I wont use it yet. I'm sure apple will take it far.
Compare original iPod with iPod Touch. I want the iPad when it is the Touch of the original iPod.... :)

I'm not being hard on it for things which it could have theoretically had but didn't. I'm being hard on it because I ALREADY have a tablet which does all of those things for that price point.

I was hoping apple would apply a little effort and make something new and interesting to push forward the tablet form factor. Instead I got a giant iphone. There is a lot that can be done with the tablet form factor. There are a lot of inadequacies and inefficiencies.

Anything and everything that someone on here has been inspired to make for an ipad could be said for any other tablet.

From my point of view, it's a kind of device
that SUPPRESS creativity and imagination.
It's not like a computer.
It's not OPEN for creation.
It's not for dynamic communication, also.
Its like a TV.
Just for watching.
Just for selling newspapers and video content.
It's not any kind of a authentic "digital revolution".
It's just a toy. A passive one.
Causing INERTIA.
Very sad.
