  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple tablet: Thoughts?

well, it is 3G - good

lack of connectivity - FAIL FAIL FAIL!

nowhere to hook up a simple hard drive makes it next to useless for my business.

i'm sure my nine year old will like it, for car travel or something...

Camera on the front would have been nice for skype calls ect, face it....not sure about many people here but I video conference a fair amount between family and clients and I am surprised they overlooked this one. This unit does feel very beta with its wide frame, I am expecting version 2.0 to be more screen.

I was really hoping it would have OSX. I wonder how long it'll be before people find a way to put it on there...assuming it's even possible.

I only need it to run a few extra apps and then I'd be set. If it could run word and maybe a screenwriter program, as well as being able to send to a printer, etc, plus an easy folder system for my files. I travel a fair amount and I could leave my Macbook pro home most of the time if only I could write on the iPad in a decent app. I'm sorry but the iWork suit blows big time. Ever try writing in Pages? Worst app ever!

No built in camera, what were they thinking? That thing would have been perfect for video chatting with grandma. Oh well, sorry grandma.

So much focus on what it doesn't have, not what it is..

Apple have always left things out. It is one of their differentiating marks. They aren't really interested in selling you on what the components of their products do, just on what the product as a whole is capable of.

Here is a new platform. Make of it what you can imagine. It's a playspace.

Oh and the large border - it does give you something to grip...

I was thinking exactly the same thing. And as a content producer, it certainly opens up some new perspectives if it manages to be successful. Create great specific content for it and you will certainly get some attention. Remember its not just a tablet but also a new distribution system.

Done. I already have one. It's called a tabletPC.

Using full OS on a tablet isn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be. And handwriting recognition is really good now. So good I don't even understand how it can read it when often I can't.

I could see this being nice on an airplane and vacation where I want to look at pictures, check my email and watch movies on the plane. But nothing else. If I'm at home I would prefer to be able to type on my keyboard. If I want to watch a movie I'll watch it on my TV. If I want to check a movie time etc I'll use a smartphone.

The iPad flipping sucks. That's it. Makes 'Apple TV' seem fantastic by comparison.

You know, as a macbook air user, I got very used to having a computer around that weighs about as much as a magazine. I use it much more sitting around the house than I ever did my powerbook and I love traveling with it.

I think this opad will be great for traveling and for all the things the iphone is just too small for. I think people will love this.

I have..

1 - Samsung Q1 Ultra (my tablet PC) .. has stylus input, USB, SD card slot, VGA, camera, etc.
1 - iPhone
1 - iTouch

I'm covered. This iPad.. not good enough. Needs a full OS and be able to multitask. This is obviously more of a media player than a computer. =/

I think the video on the Apple website is over saturated

Apple's business strategy is getting more and more lame. The reason why it's lame is feature exclusion strategy and creating separate markets instead of targeting greater multi-functionality. Sweet for a shareholder but totally lame for a customer.

I was waiting for something like this only to see it turned out too big and too feature limited to bother.

-It's not a computer - I have to carry a laptop with it.
-It's not an audio/video communicating device - could have been a great one but Apple somehow thinks that a camera is not something people find useful.
-It's not a portable multimedia device - can't connect it to a TV, connect it practically to a camera or external storage.
-It's not a practical media storage - connectivity sucks, having to carry a dock around for anything is ridiculous.

camera... http://www.bt-1.com/

and go cloud for the rest. ( or wireless network storage )

I like it.... sometimes the most important part of any job I do is the meeting we meet... and having my folio and reel slip out of a little leather sleeve would be very nice. It's very sexy....

You guys have no idea the potential yet. with a 3G connection anywhere! you can skype all you want! I did it on my iphone 3g over wifi without a carrier, before I had Tmobile. I'm sure it won't take long to get some amazing features going. Just like all the extra features you get from Rock or Cydia, I'm thinking about getting one. I can VNC into my Desktop computer on set and look at transfer progress and waveforms without leaving the DP's side.
