  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple tablet: Thoughts?

But my point is, if you're getting the iPad and the keyboard dock...why not just buy a laptop for nearly the same price and not have accessories?

Hmm...I'm liking it but I was hoping for a little more innovation. This really is just a big iPhone...

It's really not made for techheads like us. The numbers of people who buy laptops ONLY to surf and do email is MUCH greater than our little demographic. Hell, that's almost all *I* do on my laptop. Anything bigger goes to the MacPro.

I think once they get onto rev2 and the price goes down $100, it'll take off. Kids, seniors, parents (like mine) that can't maintain a windows PC...

Notice in every pic that people's legs are up or crossed. Again, put this on an airplane table tray and get ready for the neck pain.

Believe me, I love everything Apple. This is cool. Sanjin, you are right, this is mostly for browsing, reading & watching. However, even the non-techie people do a whole lot of texting and emailing. I'm unsure this is a good device for that. We'll see.

it doesn't even remotely cannibalize a macbook, as you can't put any friggin apps on the iPathetic. Only bullshit iphone apps. They threw in a bone with a new version of iWork. Has anyone ever tried that crap. It sucks big time. No word, no ftp, no other writing apps, no ichat, nothing. It's not a real computer. It's only a media player and web browser.

very disappointed

Seriously, this is exactly what I was thinking. Its ergonomically retarded. Could you imagine having to lean your head straight up and down to watch a movie while resting this thing in your lap?

why can't you hold it in your lap at 45 degrees just like you hold a book or a kindle for that matter? i'm not a big reader but are people complaining that books or magazines are ergonomically retarded?

Very interesting, Sanjin. That is a pretty cool case. I haven't seen that yet.

I'm very surprised in the video on Apple's site how little they focused on books. I thought that was the main reason for doing this product...to take over that last market. NOTHING about school textbooks. I guess those publishers won't go without kicking and screaming. They make a whole lot of money on ripped pages, updates and scribbles. :-)

Honestly, when I heard the name iPad I thought it was an Onion article joke or something. Apple can't be serious with a name like iPad..

I can't just run the IphoneOS. Its not as good of a tool, and I'm sure there will be a lot of interesting things that can be done with this after we can run unassigned code on it.

Until it can do what a Wacom does, or has integration/support in some of the CS (or other creative) apps, I think I'll wait. Imagine a $499, ~10" "Cintiq"...

why is Apple so scared of expandable memory on their mobile devices? Can't they have put a SD card slot on this thing?

I don't see the market for this thing, but then again I was wrong about the iphone too.

It's not powerful or useful enough to make me ditch a laptop, too big to make me ditch an ipod touch, can't make calls or do skype with video.

As far as replacing textbooks, that might happen some day, but not a $500 device, more like a simple, rugged, and very cheap device that kids can't play games or message on.
