  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any word about ODEMAX from NAB 2013?

That makes sense but I am sorry it makes no sense for them not to answer their emails with something as simple as we are alive and working, very good things are coming, stand by. They have shown their colors as to what they feel is an appropriate way to treat potential end users and I will watch their progress but go elsewhere as will many other consumers I know. I agree they have no obligation to do anything but WTF neither does their market.

Mark, let's be upfront about this. If you were truly going somewhere else you would already be gone after having given up on ODEMAX about a month ago. Trust me, you are not going to move things along any faster by continually threatening to go elsewhere. '-)

I'll take delivery of the Sony content server as soon as it comes to market. It should be available for separate purchase (not bundles with a new Sony panel) by August or September. Sony studios and other non Sony studios (read BIG Boys) are participating to supply content. Server costs MSRP $699 and content will be sold for download exact details unknown. I have cancelled my Redray preorder.

So, I guess that means you will be moving over to the SONY projector forum and leaving Reduser. Gonna miss you but I do understand.

Great, now hopefully we will hear less of your whinging. I hope that you ordered your REDRAY prior to me so that I get bumped up a notch...

I'm still skeptical about how practical a 100GB file download will be for average people in the real world, especially with bandwidth caps from most ISPs. Spending a day to tie up my entire internet connection to get one 4K movie is not my idea of a good time.

I think large downloads will be practical someday, but not anytime soon, and certainly not in the Top 100 cities in North America. God help you if you're in Dirt, Montana trying to download 100GB on a dodgy connection.

Elsie and William. Relax. I will be hanging around to learn from those who know things I don't know what I can and to share my wealth of expertise in areas far too numerous to list. I have cancelled my redray order but it is set up so my place in line ids being maintained and my great Bomb Squad rep will call me when my turn comes up to give me one last chance at product acceptance. I didn't order until day 3 or so. I believe there is an opportunity to make some money here, about the amount of Red's Q profit, after all everyone says they are pricing things as if they are a non profit, buy selling my unit to someone who didn't order before the $300 price increase. If someone wants, I will sell my unit unopened for $1600, the new price is $1750. Aren't you glad all you girls and guys preordered at the INTRODUCTORY price. Elsie. I do participate in other forums where the Sony 1000ES is discussed at great length. It is a great projector and I have owned it for over a year now and have no desire to go to some other projector. I know I should have waited for the Red projector. News Flash. Its been delayed again What? No! Its been put on the back burner. Other things need to be cooked first evidently. No admission that there are technical problems to be solved, regulatory issues to be hurdled, and that the $10K target can't be met because of laser costs. But you all wait. No one needs a 4K projector until Red delivers one. And if one has a projector, shoot it on a wall, no one needs a screen until Red makes one.I will watch what happens. I do like Red and what it has done but no I am not a Red loyalists. At present they are not a HT consumer oriented company and I am a HT consumer. I don't make movies, I pay for them to be made by going to a theater or buying content. But if the Redray becomes a great success and content becomes available from a source other than Odemax I will buy one one the cost comes down to the neighborhood of the Sony or less.

I wouldn't get that media server from Sony. I'm sure the Playstation 4 will have all those functions come launch at end of the year for half the price...
I suspect the big difference in Sony's price for the stand-alone 4K media player ($699) vs. the PS4 (~$400) is the media player comes pre-loaded with 10 movies in 4K plus several 4K short subjects. The pre-loaded 4K programming prehaps accounts for $400 of the price of the stand-alone 4K player.

Is that price official? I was getting the impression that it would likely be higher, because of the media functions.

Or the PS4 hardware is subsidised by game licences fees, don't forget Sony get a percentage of all sales of games for the PS4. The bundled movies will likely not be factored into the media players price.

Perfectly good explanation and perfectly sound buying plan. No problem with that. The problem is how others see you. I understand your disappointment that RED and ODEMAX has not met your desire to have what you want to instantly gratify you, and I personally have no hard feelings about you expressing that even though I see your rants as unduly negative. It's just that your posts continue to be negative and after so much reading of your negativity, I begin to see you trying to undermine what I still see as positive and FINALLY I JUST SNAP AND GO ALL POSTAL AND...AND!... sorry... I... o.k., I'm over it now. I'm putting my Calvin endorsed flame-thrower back in the closet now. Hobbes stopped me just in time. Too much Chocolate Sugar Bombs cereal for breakfast this morning, I guess.

Being 68 at the end of May, I really don't care what others think of me. I have a well established track record in the high end audio and HT industries. Besides being an engineer and a lawyer, over the years, I owned a very successful specialty aidio and HT store which we closed in 2011. Started in 1983. Recently, I have consulted for several large HT manufacturers and screen companies. I have built and/or installed approximately 2000 HT and am currently working on one where the equipment alone will come in at about $200K. Whatever. I am considered one of the good guys in the industry and am known for giving whatever help consumers need on a free advice basis. Elsie. I am sure we would be great friends if we lived in the same area. I live in Brookeville MD now but my wife and I will be moving to Sarasota shortly.

So you are only 67? Then I can legally call you pup since I turned 68 in February. '-)

I don't have the credentials you have in any field since some 25 years of the past 35 were spent in devotion to duty (not armed forces, two year hitch and I was outta there). I live in dry and dusty West Texas (18 inches annual rainfall where I live... when were not in an historic drought like now) and have given thought to moving to an even drier and dustier place, Marfa TX. I haven't been married for some 40 years. May try it again some day, but I see no need to hurry. I agree we would be great friends, one reason is 'cause you know a lot of stuff and I am always anxious to learn new stuff.

Hope you and your wife find Sarasota to be your paradise. '-)

I spoke with Lawrence at the Odemax section of the RED booth over a couple of the days...the system is impressive. There are a lot of exciting opportunities for content creators and owners with 4K content, though there are definitely things that will need to be looked at and applied to fulfill certain other digital distribution and theatrical needs. Still, very excited about it. I even got a few pics and a (very short) video of it, I'll post soon with it.

Chase, are they still planning on being solely a .RED codec digital distributor?

Yes, based on what they said, .RED was necessary for upload on their platform. I posted a couple pics on facebook.com/quiverdigital, working on getting the video uploaded. Video is nothing special though, literally just me recording the menu on a monitor and display. It was all through a URL which was cool. I asked a lot of questions as I work in digital distribution, so if you guys have any questions, I'll let you know if they commented on it!

Thanks Chase, just wondering if they mentioned whether there are any changes in the original release info that was put up on Reduser. I'm hoping they are making some changes but only in additional features.
