  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any way to modernize Lomo Square Front lenses?

I don't yet own a set but am interested

WELCOME ABOARD, BRIAN!

NICK IS WORKING VERY HARD TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN FOR REDUSERS LIKE US.

PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME TO THIS LIST IF YOU HAVE A SET OF LOMO SQUARE FRONTS AND WOULD BE INTERESTED ON A MODERN REHOUSING OF THE GLASS.

THE MORE INTEREST WE GET, THE FASTER THE PROJECT WILL GREEN-LIGHT!!!!

Yes, complete rehouse, new mechanics. Closer focus, I'll know more once they do my test set and figure it out.

Also, If anyone has any great ideas about design elements they are looking for I will add them to this list if they aren't dumb ;-)

I've had a big idea. I hope it isn't dumb, I don't *think* it is...

...Here it is. A lot of us have the two part anamorphic sets, and there aren't enough front elements to go around but I was thinking what if we keep the lenses in two parts (please stay with me)... I realise this sounds like a horrible idea as the original lomo design doesn't hold together that well in this sense but what if the two parts had a much better interface, maybe a screw mount of bayonet mount? It might even be possible to create a further focal length with a third rear. Maybe a 100mm or a 65mm or something.

Obviously the key would be getting the two halves to mate correctly and securely.

What do people think?

I don't think that's necessarily a bad idea, but I do think it's more complicated, and will be more expensive which is kind of counter to the whole point of the 2 piece as they are the cheaper lenses.

The Illuminas are releasing an anamorphic front that goes on the 35 50 and 85 (I think they may be making it two, one for the 35 and 50, one for the 85 and 135). SO the idea is not without merit.

Noted Patrick. I'm going to check in and see how they are doing when I get back from this movie.

Looking forward to updates, Nick!

I have at least 3 people with sets (including myself) that would definitely be interested.

Howdy,

Checked in, no new news to report. They have made basic evaluations, but don't want to tear them apart till they have the time to go all in to the project and do it all at once. I like that approach.

I'll post more info when it becomes available.

Howdy,

Last I checked in was About 3 weeks ago. They said they had still not had time to dive in all the way yet. However, I have an anamorphic project coming up in April, so I just bought a new old 37-140 foton A (a really good one, Kinda looks great, and I have learned a lot about lenses since my last one), I'm about to have my 500mm round front up and running and I really want my primes back by then. Not looking forward to using other anamorphics. I'l probably rent kowas if mine aren't done. So, I am invested in them getting done ASAP ;-)

Nick

I just went and compiled everyone's name into a master list. I am going to check in with them right after christmas and give them an idea of how many people are interested.

I have a month long project in April that I need a set of primes for, so I am hoping they can get something together for me by then. Otherwise......send me a quote for a months rental for a set of PL Square fronts ;-)

Merry Christmas and happy new year. I hope to have info soon.

Cheers,

Nick
