  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any Truth To This: Red + Foxconn = Low Cost Professional Cameras For The Masses ??

What is your day rate for labor? Add a week+ of that to be fair ;-)

One week is when I am lazy and slow :-)
You can do it in two days if you dedicate yourself fully to the task.

However, since I don‘t build drones for living (sales) I don‘t know what my day rate would be. As a reference, here in Switzerland if you call an electrician to fix something in your household, they usually charge you $100-120 per hour. So lets say 16h (8h per day) x $100 = $1600. Then if you take into consideration that you build a drone that last at least 3-4 years fully operational before exchanging parts - that amount is negligible.
Not to mention when something is wrong, you don‘t have to deal with DJI or Freefly support. Save you tons of hours.

Guys, anybody remember pureview? Anybody remember the Yi m4/3rds that does 4k, or s35 BM cameras? There are ways to do 8k sensir cheap in high volume. Personally I think performance has something to do with the technology they 'allow' to be put in cheaper sensors. Certainly a mobile chipset could probably even do 8k cineform raw these, even without native hardware for this.

I agree with the general premise that in 10 years we'll look back at the amount of bullshit it took to record and process a movie quality image and laugh. Like that teenagers 10 years from now might never get a driver's license - since that's what cars will do automatically

Where is that thread where they dis Kineinfinity for copying Red's brain's shape?

People really need to stop thinking about sensor specs and think about the much bigger endgame.

I don't think Hydrogen will be manufactured in the millions or even hundreds of thousands. I think RED developed Hydrogen to get Foxconn's and it's biggest partner's attention.

And yes, I am saying that Foxconn doesnt get out of bed to reduce their dependance on Apple for peanut quantities of cameras.

I think they are both exploring a strategic partnership and even themselves are not quite sure how that will play out.

It is likely they are exploring cross product pollination and if for instance Foxconn begins making their own telephone, they might indeed want Red to be the developer for the camera element. In return I think it would give RED a factory to bring in lower cost elements and even assembly for their cameras. So basically you might get a less expensive camera, but you can forget the "Made in America" tag.

What I am also saying is that the mistake people are making here is that they are looking at it from a Red-centric point of view and they need to look at it from the bigger partners perspective - Foxconn. Who is trying to create insurance for it's longevity.

Put another way, currently both RED and Foxconn to some degree are basking in both the prestigious glow and the shadow of the biggest player of them all - Apple. Which is why I don't think this is about cameras. Because as we know, if they are successful in creating the next gen of cell phone they are either a friend or a foe - and we all know how these things work out...

In which case JJ has just landed himself another opportunity to be bought out again for a tremendous amount of money.

I agree but could it be more of a "beginning game" on an entirely new industry ?

^^^ Indeed.. RED brings incredible value for what's "Next".

^^^ Not necessarily, Foxconn are building plants in Wisonsin and India... The problem is IS that PRC is fixing to take Taiwan (number 1 on China's constitutional "To do list"... Xi jing pin Seems to want to accelerate that time line and very very smart business people in Taiwan need to shift their capability elsewhere including US soil. Living under the scheme of PRC may not be every Taiwanese business man's "idea" of a good time.

Is that possible ? And if so what happens after that (in the context of basically starting a new industry) in partnership with Foxconn ?

"I love it when a plan comes together..."

THE A TEAM... :

" I pity the fool whose not seeing it ..." :costumed-smiley-047:

I wondered that myself.

The Foxconn plants planned for Murica are not for making phones. They are for making display panels and some other incidentals, with future expansion for additional manufacturing being possible with the allocated land. There's no guarantee that the plants will make it off the ground, as the company has lost huge amounts of money South Of Da Border on the plants they got talked into building there and their other American ventures have failed thus far, which is why they are shutting those plants down.
