Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Perhaps the price point of a Scarlet Dragon is too close to that of an Epic-X? I wonder how many people have chosen the Scarlet Dragon upgrade route rather than the latter.
I have mine. I shot a 48 Hour film on it last weekend, and some interviews on it the following Monday. I can post the 48 hour stuff after tomorrow. I will. I am shooting some fashion ad with it this week, mostly 5k @ 48FPS. I should be able to post stills from that.
Overall, the latitude is great. I shot the 48 Hour at 2000 ASA, but I was shooting for B/W Hi-Con with deep stops, so noise was not an issue for me. Here is a still from it. The graduations of grey is pretty amazing. This was shot on the Ziess ZE 50mm f2
Thanks for starting this thread. I know there's many out there who are waiting to pull the trigger on the upgrade (like myself) and are anticipating the feedback about Dragon out there in the RED community. I'd love to see many more Scarlet Dragon users post their impressions.
This was shot for the Baltimore 48 Hour Film Festival. We received our Scarlet Dragon on The Thursday before the shoot and basically moved over all our AKS from the SCARLET to this body and shot on Saturday. This was done without professional actors and a very, very small crew (t was just two of us in the Camera/Grip/Electric department)
Shot on Ziess ZE glass @ F5.6. Dragon was set to 2000 ASA (needed a fat stop for the look). This is straight from the camera, ungraded. We had set the saturation to 0 and the contrast to 1 on set and never had time to grade it. Grip package was a Joker 800, two 750 Tungston Pars, 650w ARRI, 300w ARRI, couple fatboy kinos, and 3 flags. yes 3.
We are probably going to re-edit this, but this was our 48 hour cut. Overall it was fun, and the camera was rock solid.
I also just shot a fashion and jewelry piece for a high end national client this week on this body. All at 5K/30fps. Again Rock Solid. It was the first time I shot with a Motion Mount. I will post an update about that project shortly, but I can't post any stills from it.
