Any Possibility of a Scarlet Update?

I would really appreciate some sort information on the stage release pattern for the scarlet. The Epic is taking place of the red ones, so I understand the tiered release pattern to reward customer loyalty and slow production demands.

But I'm not sure how many Red one owners want a little 2/3s Scarlet. The Scarlet is designed to reach new customers. So is there going to be a similar stage 2 ,3, and 4?

It seems strange to me that nobody came to this thread to comment about this. Perhaps they feel that the scarlet will cannibalize the market for Epic and they want to push it as far as they possibly can, that's also why they removed the FF35 scarlet. Maybe they don't want to release it until they get as many Epic orders as they can... who knows? It's strange because as far as size of market, the market for fixed scarlet is maybe 1000 times bigger than the market for Epic.

There hasn't been much Scarlet news since the announcements back in
november so not much for people to comment on.

The Scarlet market will be huge..but since Epic is the top of the
line camera and will be used to shoot high profile features..it makes sense that it is first priority.
Actually a plus since it seems whatever Epic features that were cost effective
and possible to put into Scarlet have been done so.
As to a Scarlet FF35..it was announced way back and doesn't seem to have been officially cancelled..
..more definite Monstro news is for next year or Nov./Dec. it seems.

jim didn't say scarlet was behind schedule, in answering the question 'is scarlet development running parallel to epics or not?'
he wrote
Scarlet is trailing only slightly.

You think their not? I would find it hard to believe the the scarlet would be pushed to 2011!

Yes that is correct Sterling. We're already into Q2. In my estimation, no Scarlets of any kind will be for sale to the general public within this calendar year. But I'm not an expert, I have no inside information.

I think RED knows that prioritizing EPIC over Scarlet coupled with constant delays is costing them many potential customers. And to have them lured away by such an inferior system (canon dslr's) must sting. People have said RED has shot themselves in the foot by delaying the scarlet over and over and over again, but really the only way to shoot yourself in this industry is to release a bad product. And the day RED releases a bad product, I'll shoot myself in the foot.

totally agree. In the end we are all only responsible for ourselves.

thanks

Let's see where we stand. Tattos are go in May, following NAB. Stage 2 kicks in July/August. Let's assume August.

Now going back to the November 30th announcements. Stage 2 was scheduled for NAB, so, the bottom-line is the entire product line up is running 3 months late.

Scarlet 2/3" was scheduled for May/June 2010 back on Nov 30th.

You do the math, there's a good chance we will see Scarlet 2/3" in late Q3 or early Q4. Especially as Jim has confirmed it is "trailing only slightly". Now that comment is quite ambiguous, but at worst case scenario, we are assuming a three to four months delay over June 2010. If the development were indeed running parallel and Scarlet is "trailing only slightly" from the previously expected May-June 2010, we might even have it earlier. But early Q4 sounds realistic to me.

Scarlet S35 might just make it for Christmas time, or likely early 2011.

Look at Apple - they became what they are today after they started selling relatively cheap MP3 players to the masses...for years they were only selling high end computers for architects and graphic designers, only when they started to sell cheaper products with larger markets they became what they are today.

Yes, and what about production? And Red One / Epic users being in the front of the line? Those babies can be "out of stock" another 6 months before "the rest of us" can get one...

You mean Apple, the consumer product company that now largely ignores PRO users?

NO THANKS RED! PLEASE DONT BECOME THE iPHONE FOR DIGITAL CINEMA

Yes, these are the concerns that were addressed in the "Mad Dash for Scarlet" thread. It remains to be seen. But I trust RED to anticipate the demand and ensure that there are no major backorders. Part of the reason for the delays I am sure is working out an effective distribution channel, as much as final touches on the hardware/software.

But still, I am concerned about waiting for 6 months, yes.... Let's wait and see and hope that doesn't happen. I am sure Red is aware about the possibility of massive demand.

Leaves will turn Scarlet this Autumn!

I have absolutely no inside knowledge, but I have pored over just about every thread here on REDuser about Scarlet, Epic and the timing of their release. I believe we will see the Scarlet 2/3" shipping no later than October. (And that's 2010, for those doubters among you.)

:cheers2:

Isn't he called Father Christmas in the UK? You may have to rewrite it addressed to him for your request to happen, hehehe. :001_tongue:

I've written to ever S. Claus in the phone book... followed by a preemptive christmas card to my bank!
