  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another Cheap battery alternative

So far so good. I'm trying to cycle these batteries to see if there is noticeable degradation. The stock charger takes about 5hours to fully charge the batteries, which can be a PITA when waiting. The indicator is inaccurate and I wouldn't rely on it. The first bar drops after it hits about 14v. Weird thing is once it reaches below 13V the voltage drops 3x faster and eventually depletes. Will need more testing. I had the camera shut down on me randomly while not recording. Not sure if battery or camera issue, but happened when I had a redvolt on the side handle.

So far so good.

I've been using them on full day Epic shoots without a hitch. They'll give you approximately 2 hours of use and when paired with REDvolts in the side handle, they can be hot swapped. Only caveat is no percentage readout but if you're use to reading voltages, 12.5 to 13v is the area I usually swap out for a charged one. There's a battery indicator on the side but that usually shows more bars than there really is so I wouldn't rely on it.

So far it's gone full days on 2 indie shorts and a Flo-Rida music video... I like 'em

Quick update... after 3 months of use, these batteries are still holding up well. Still maintaining 2 hours per charge.

One drawback... these bricks do not work solo with the new Quickplate Module. A fully charged RedVolt needs to be in the side handle and even still, power readings display "0" even though the camera draws power from the brick. May just be a firmware issue.

I think I am going to have to invest in some of these. Seems like a solid deal.

What do you mean do not work solo?

With no other power sources, when you attached this brick (fully charged) by itself via the new Quickplate Module, it reads "0%" power and starts a countdown to shutdown. Others have noticed this with other 3rd party batteries as well. A quick way around it is to add a fully charged revolt in the side handle. The camera will draw power from the brick but it'll still read "0%".

For that reason, I don't recommend this battery if you have the new Quickplate Module (no cables).

Wow, that's enough juice to leave the camera on the whole day. Where did you get them by the way Kaiven?

In China. I am an Electronic Engineer. I designed them.Thank you for purchasing the battery. Can I help you?

What numbers do you get if you set the battery display to "Voltage" instead of "Percentage"?

These batteries do not display percentage. If the camera's set to percentage, the display still reads as voltage.
