  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another breakthrough...

I think that the important message to the community is that you can grow your system without having to always buy a new camera.

This is exactly opposite of the experience that owners of vDLSR's will have!:rolleyes5:

I think that the important message to the community is that you can grow your system without having to always buy a new camera. We are making more from a RED ONE camera than anyone ever dreamed. And yet the RED ONE is still limited. The next RED cameras will NEVER be limited. That is the beauty of EPIC and Scarlet.

Anyone who invested in RED... the RED ONE, has received more than they bargained for. Anyone who invests in the future of RED is investing in a philosophy.

How many camera companies do this? How many companies in any industry do this? Free upgrades that make you product measurably better. Trade in your old for full credit? A system that never goes out of date?

Those that believed in RED at NAB 2006 are smarter than they ever imagined. We want to make it so...

Jim

I could not agree more, and not just because I'm one of those people which firmly believes that the right tool is 50% of your job, but because I believe that we are at a point , if we were not there before, that Technology is truly our friend, our closest friend in fact.

"Anyone who invested in RED... the RED ONE, has received more than they bargained for. Anyone who invests in the future of RED is investing in a philosophy. "

Agreed.

Thank you for continuing to stretch the RED ONE as far as you possibly can Mr. Jannard. There are thousands and thousands of RED's out there with tons of accessories, lenses, housings, add-ons and support equipment and those large volumes of previously expensive third-party add-ons will eventually become very inexpensive on the used market making the RED ONE valuable for a long time. The EPIC and SCARLET platforms will take that to another level but a lot of the third-party stuff will be expensive again. You will always be able to generate tremendous cash-flow for R&D and operations by coming back to and upgrading the RED ONE especially if you can work out the logistical constraints of running 8,000 cameras through a shop dedicated to that task in 60 days or less. I wouldn't be surprised if you could still sell 3,000 or more $5,000 sensor upgrades to the old RED ONE 5 years from now every year. The used accessory and lens market will help make those cameras a great choice for years. Many if not most situations don't require a handheld or small unit and pro fluid heads and gear heads even the best stedicam units function best with the additional weight.

You don't need any advice from me, I'm sure, just trying to point out what I think is an incredible opportunity for long term additional cash-flow, customer satisfaction and etc. Your original mantra was "Making obsolescence obsolete". You can still do that with the RED ONE in addition to taking to the next level with EPIC and Scarlet.

Hope I haven't overstepped my bounds. :)

But wasn't that only because Stu M threatened to buy a Nikon if they didn't :-) ? Seriously though, there's a vast difference between a mindset of continual improvement in firmware to add features and make things better because you want them to be better, and being forced into it through a customer revolt reminding you that most of the world is not based on NTSC frame rates.

Except of course the last two 5D updates.

The way I see it, a lot of people were fairly pissed off when the 7D was released with features that the more expensive 5D didn't have, and should have had from the beginning.

To release the 5D with only 30p frame rate, auto exposure and AGC audio was just proof of Canon's shortsightedness.

The firmware updates only bring the 5D up to the level of basic functionality that is expected these days.

Well said, Graeme!

Canon is even today proving their age-old business model of incremental updates in the form of new products, forcing customers to buy new in order to upgrade.

Yes, and it takes a big investment in engineering resources to keep refining and improving the camera firmware. Adding a couple more framerates and turning off auto modes is pretty trival.

For any gamers out there, does Red remind them of Blizzard in a way? It does for me (company-wise).

Stop breaking the laws of physics, u'll make God angry and then the world really will end in 2012:-D

Awesomeness, hopefully it'll be released by our shoot on the 20th:-P

Sure, except that Blizzard has turned into the company it was trying hard not to be. Now that they are just a division of a giant corporate entity that is all about the bottom line I wouldn't hope for Red to continue down their path.

We love our RED

We love our RED

I hope to be able to upgrade in the near future, but for now I am more than satisfied with my RED ONE! I am looking forward to adding a Scarlett and will continue shooting with our RED as is. Things can only get better, but they are pretty damn nice the way they are now. Keep up the good work and thanks for giving guys like me a chance.

....red has to develop their aftersales centers network.

......At least some collecting points in main countries to avoid sending back and forth our cameras to USA or even England...

Yannick

Oh yes. Again I have to say: The combination of FedEx and german customs is especially deadly. My Red Zoom ist being kept in Frankfurt since 8 days for some unknown reason, inspite of me doing everything by the (very large) book.

Jochen

Our Red One is waiting for it's call up to become a Red Two. You guys just do not rest!
