  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another breakthrough...

As of today... we have found some more DR (less noise) in the M-X RED ONE. We are still doing some refinement, but the next firmware build will include this "tweak".

I love this program and the guys working on it. Every day better.

Stay tuned to this channel.

yayyyyy! P.s. man you guys are up late a lot... either you like sleeping in or work damn hard haha (or both)

Major props to the entire RED team!

It is an amazing time we live in...

Cant wait for my Scarlet, Keep up the amazing work guys!!!

I think that the important message to the community is that you can grow your system without having to always buy a new camera. We are making more from a RED ONE camera than anyone ever dreamed. And yet the RED ONE is still limited. The next RED cameras will NEVER be limited. That is the beauty of EPIC and Scarlet.

Anyone who invested in RED... the RED ONE, has received more than they bargained for. Anyone who invests in the future of RED is investing in a philosophy.

How many camera companies do this? How many companies in any industry do this? Free upgrades that make you product measurably better. Trade in your old for full credit? A system that never goes out of date?

Those that believed in RED at NAB 2006 are smarter than they ever imagined. We want to make it so...

Jim,

Any chance of a rough approximation of how much extra DR you have squeezed out? 1/3 of a Stop or 1/2 a stop? Anything is good.

Maybe 1/4 stop... but we don't think we are done. 1/4 stops of DR are huge at this level BTW.

I can appreciate the dedication RED makes to its loyal customers. I know that making M-X better contributes to future cameras, but the fact that there is "backwards" support to the RED ONE is phenomenal.

Simply amazing. Appreciation should also be extended to Jim's new bride for 'allowing' him to spend so much time with us on these boards.

thx

Hi Jim,

Do you mean Firmware Build 30?

Thanks

Hope a little of this new found dynamic range will spill over into the parallel build for the R-1. Have installed the Build 30 in my R-1s and everything looks different on the monitor now... in a good way. But one thing it seems you can never get enough of is more (of a good thing.)

I used to worry what would happen someday should Jim just take his camera on a shoot to an island and decide to not come back. I don't worry about that now because this has all become the culture of RED and I don't think it is totally dependent on any one person now.

I don't guitar neck about that any more... you know... fret.

Thanks, Jim!

My only regret it not letting Red keep the extra $1000 they accidentally charged my card... coulda picked up an extra serial #. Then I would have been twice as smart.

Jim,

I'm sure you guys already thought this through but with all those scarlets and epics on their way to be sold everywhere around the world, and considering those professional camera will need maintenance, red has to develop their aftersales centers network.

Many young or less young independant film-makers will buy scarlets from the fixed one to maybe ~15000$ packages. For sure there will some minor issues like those occurring these days (noisy LCD and other small things like this...), and i guess all those people will expect some closer customer care center. At least some collecting points in main countries to avoid sending back and forth our cameras to USA or even England...
